Just finished my scratch built Masterpiece Death's Head this week. Roughly built on a Ko Hot Toys blank, I ended up rebuilding everything except the internal shoulder joints and diaphragm rocker, and scaled the buck down to a 10 inch figure. DH is mainly built from Greenstuff epoxy putty, sheet styrene, and styrene sprue. All the musculature is sculpted from greenstuff. Lego ball joints for hips, neck, wrists, ankles, armour pieces and cape articulation. Lego Technic posts for the weapons, couple of Lego bits used on the Titanium Shott Blaster, missile, gun scope and backpack. Used the top of a Lynx shower gel bottle as the basis for the shield. The hands are very heavily modded KFC Soundblaster hands. And a sharpie for the gun. The 20,000 Shanix are dolls house jars with chunky glitter inside. Painted using Citadel paints and brushes, then spray varnished. This guy took me nearly 18 months.
Cheers dude. He's 10 inches exactly to the top of his head. MP10 Optimus Prime is 9.75 inches. DH is listed as 30 foot, so I think that's about right. It's not a great photo, but:
Wow, that's excellent. Can I be really gauche and ask if you would ever consider doing a commission of this, and what it would cost? Or, as I suspect may be the case, could you never again face spending 18 months working on it again! I have to ask, because 1 I'm a huge DH fan, and 2) frankly that is the best custom I have ever seen.
Thank you dude. It's my first scratch built custom toy. Though I used to do GW 40k back in the 90's. It was honestly about 1500+ hrs work, and although I'm very pleased with how he turned out, I'm also happy it's over. Although I'm also sure that, if I were to make one again, it'd be far easier. I'd say it'd take a year or less. Never say never, though. Several people on FB have asked for one.
