Do you guys think the quarians were right to be scared and trying to shut down the geth? Or were the geth right in their war?

It depends on the eye of the beholder personally.

IMO the quarians are at fault, by killing them, when in fact they did nothing wrong.

So personally I'm with the geth.

    Geth were totally right.

I'm sorry, but if you make a race of super intelligent machines and they begin to question their existence and/or fight back against oppression/destruction they deserve to be free or have rights like normal people... I mean aliens.

Quarians were clearly in the wrong. The Geth weren't hostile until the quarians started killing them and those who tried to protect them.

The geth, however committed genocide during the war. Is that a valid card to pull?

They were just fighting back. As long as the quarians attacked, they were fight back. Even if it meant killing most of their creators.

This is one of those difficult positions. On one hand, the Quarians had unwittingly created a brand new life form: an absolutely mind bending concept to get your head around. On the other hand, their reaction was pretty much textbook.....if you got your textbook from Crusades era Britain.

The Geth and some Quarians fought back, but fervor and fear won the day until the Geth got their shit in order and kicked their arse. Yet they only beat the Quarians into a retreat (albiet from their homeworld) but did not pursue once they were safe.

This is where the game confuses me however. The Quarians genociding the Geth (if you were unable/unwilling to reconcile the two) makes sense since its an incredibly emotional response to an equally large former slight. Yet the Geth, who by Legion's own admission, do not respond emotionally, do the same thing. Did they honestly reach consensus that genocide was the way to go or have they become truely sapient and exhibiting hubris and vengeance?

They reached the consensus that defending themselves till the threat was removed was that correct course. If that led to genocide, then that would have been the outcome, but once the Quarians retreated, the reason for the continued fight was gone.
As it stands now, the Geth are defending themselves. Legion pretty much confirms this when Shepard asks him if other will be affected by what the Geth are doing to which Legion responds "If they involve themselves, they will" which I take to mean as "You come after us, we will fight back. Help us and we will help you."
