I'd love to own this. I've recently been reading the IDW tpbs, and this piece has taken on a whole new meaning for me recently. I'll be very envious of whoever actually ends up with this.

    quite a piece of history!
the first non-diaclone art made for the charecters we grew up with and mostly loved (except trailbreaker..nobody ever loved him). definatly something that will go for quite a bit to a very lucky fan.

wow this reminds me of how I used to draw back when I was 7 years old.

I used to love drawing Marvel Transformers back in the day, but then 25 years later IDW redefined the entire Art Style, and now if folks draw like this they are ridiculed or corrected because they don't have enough detail or mechanical parts showing. :(

I also remember that page in issue one. I have to say there is something very charming about the style of that comic book.

I can't tell you how much I would love to own this!

The only way to get me more excited would be an auction for an original Geoff Senior piece - my head would explode with joy!

I never liked Senior's artwork, or any of the late G1/G2 artists. I'd take Pat Lee's pencils over any of them any day, and Pat Lee seems to be the favorite whipping boy of many fans.

I think the current crop of TF artists (EJ Su, Don F, etc) are the best we've ever had in terms of robot designs.

I've actually read all 80 issues of the Marvel run, as well as the twelve issues of G2, and the GI Joe G2 tie in issues, having only missed the original GI Joe/Transformers crossover--making Goldbug's sudden appearance rather jarring.

Do you know what came to mind when I saw the artwork up for auction?

Very cool piece of historic artwork. That would be so wicked as a giant sized poster on a wall.

Who's the guy in the upper right next to Sideswipe? He's the only one I can't ID.

...Ah, now I see it. Not particularly clear line art.

Perhaps I misunderstood-- are you saying you drew Transformers of this quality when you were 7? I find that highly dubious.

    Not for nothing:

Even Manny Galan's G2 stuff had a better sense of space and proportion than that. It doesn't even come close to touching Wildman, Senior or Yaniger in skill-- regardless of what you think about styles.

As for the art auction, that's a damn fine piece of history on the block there! :D
