Avengers: The Initiative - NOW ONGOING!

Due to popular demand and an increased importance in the overall tapestry of the post-CIVIL WAR Marvel Universe, the upcoming AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE has now been made an ongoing series, adding a third ongoing Avengers title to the Marvel line up in the core Universe!

Executive Editor Tom Brevoort explains the decision to make the leap to ongoing, "With the reader and retailer reaction to the climax of CIVIL WAR, and the general interest in precisely what comes next for Tony Stark's Fifty State Initiative, it only made sense to us to promote AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE to a full ongoing series, rather than just a limited. The number of story possibilities set in place by the new status quo of the Marvel Universe are almost endless, and we're sure that fans will want to experience them all along with writer Dan Slott and artist Stefano Caselli."

The first issue of this exciting new ongoing series will hit the first week of April. Retailers are encouraged to check their orders for the most buzzed-about book under The Initiative banner!

    AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #1 (FEB072119)
    Written by DAN SLOTT
    Penciled by STEFANO CASELLI
    50/50 Covers by JIM CHEUNG
    Rated T+ ...$2.99

    Whoah, who's in the lineup?!

While I'm not -entirely- convinced of the need for a third Avengers book, it's DAN freaking SLOTT for chrissakes. Shulky rules, so I hope this one does too :D

Don't know who's in the line-up, issue 2 has War Machine, Gauntlet and Yellowjacket.
I always thought this title was just about training the new recruits. That's what the solicit for #2 makes it sound like anyway.

I'd say it's a bit overkill, but hey, three X-Men books is working pretty well, so why not?

So kind of like an Avengers version of New Mutants?

I'd expect this title to jump between the various state superteams...which, mind you, can be a very, very good thing if handled properly.

I'm with thefrozenred. I think this book will be about the 50 state teams rather than the 2 Avengers titles. Remember we have Yellowjacket leading a team in Texas, a Force Works team somewhere, and others. It's be nice to see these other teams as well. It's like getting a little of each hero.

I hope this one jumps from state to state so we can see the Wyoming (smallest population just over 500,000) team just sitting around because there is no one around.

Are they still calling one of the books New Avengers? And what’s the other one I haven’t been paying attention, West Coast?

Do they really need one for Delaware or Rhode Island? New York should probably have it's own, but the rest of New England probably doesn't. California should get two at least.

Hmm... this is gonna get political real fast.

Shouldn't this be considered the 4th Avengers book or was Young Avengers canceled? Will the Great Lakes Avengers be one of the teams in this book?

I'd say that Young Avengers don't count for the same reason that New X-Men doesn't count as an X-Men book. It's a spin-off junior team, not an official version of the adult team.

Besides, in order to count, Young Avengers would have to actually come out. :p

So far the Avengers teams have been the regular squad, the Great Lakes Avengers, the West Coast Avengers who latter became Force Works, Avengers Next, New Avengers, Young Avengers, and Mighty Avengers.
