This saddens me more then I thought possible. I knew of him in so many rolls, most recently as Uncle Iroh in the Nickelodeon series Avatar the Last Airbender, a show my two older daughters and I truly enjoy watching. Iroh is a character I truly loved on the series.

    He will be missed.

Excellent actor, both real life and voice. He was great in Avatar, as Uncle Iroh, and it will be a shame he can not be Splinter in the TMNT movie next year as announced at SDCC

Mako was awesome; apart from anything else, he was Aku. He will be sorely missed. :(

Mako was indeed an excellent actor, both live action and in voice overs. He will certainly be missed.

    RIP Makoto San
I hope they give Iroh a meaningful death on Avatar cause you just can't replace Mako's voice.

Uncle Iroh's that old man who's always with Prince Zuko of the Fire nation right?

Wow I wonder how they'll handle Iroh now.The way the article read I took it as his death was sudden

    Words fail me...

I felt a little colder as I read that. I've always loved his work. My prayers go out to his family.

R.I.P. Mako... you will be missed.

I will respectfully have to disagree. Nickelodeon will indeed be hard-pressed to find talent that can come close, but I don't want unforseeable real life events to ruin the plans the writers already have laid out for the story. That would make a sad event needlessly sadder.

    Ebay:
Today, my buddy and I went to this new Japanese restaurant I found, only to discover that it's closing down on Sunday.

As I sipped miso soup, he says "Oh, did you hear? Mako died."

    I swear I almost choked. :(

This is one of those deaths that just gets me, because I was (for a lack of better words) a Mako fanboy. He -is- Aku, and I heard he was set to play Splinter in the new TMNT movie. Not to mention all his other roles that, by virtue of his personality, wholly belong to him. I even bought that shit Billy Blanks movie "Balance of Power" because Mako had a leading role in it.

Really, one of the heaviest celebrity losses I've gone through. *sigh* Wherever he is, I'm sure he's still doing his thing, and being Mako, because nobody else can do that.

While I wasn't too familar with his other work, I did know him for his voice acting as "Aku".

His talents will be most missed. :(

He was great in the conan movies, and more recently he provided so much personality to Aku in Samurai Jack.

I supose this also is the end of any chance of a continuation of the series.

Oh well at Least he did an amazing role in the "Birth of Evil" trillogy, which ironicly became its ending.

I have heard the same thing.

I agree. I doubt that the writers would kill off a beloved character, like Iroh, because of this. Like you said they will be hard pressed to find another like Mako, but I think they will try.

Honestly I had never heard about him before this weekend, when he was announced to be playing Splinter in the new TMNT. Upon hearing his death so soon after is pretty unfortunate.
