so there's a couple of these that I've seen, and I was just thinking how absolutely cool it would be to have the complete run of minibots redone as basics, but also including classics bumblebee and cliffjumper to run the show. armorhide wouldn't need any painting, he's colored just like pipes. I've seen seaspray, huffer, and beachcomber done (by the same person) but was wondering if any others have been done.

I thought the following would work, either as is or with some repainting:
clocker would work well repainted as tailgate
swerve is pretty much painted like windcharger
    brushguard repainted as outback
    overhaul as brawn
    scattorshot repainted as warpath
    energon (yikes!) skyshadow as powerglide
energon strongarm as gears and swerve

and maybe, just maybe, they'll actually release that classics cosmos

I'm not sure what people think of this list, and individually they might not look like much, but if you got ALL of them together as one giant g1 homage minibot army, I think they'd look pretty sweet. if I can find them in one lot and get them, I might just have occupied myself for the rest of the year...

I think you've hit onto something that a few of us have been doing: stand-ins for Classics. You've got some really good ideas! Do you plan to make any of these customs yourself?

About what? Should you make some yourself? Only you know the answer to that, but my vote is "go for it!" :thumb

Personally, I've made no physically modifications to any figures I have for stand-ins. I have an Energon Downshift (Wheeljack obviously), a Titanium Scourge, and my E-combiners (I don't have the overwhelming desire to buy a second Devestator).

In a fit of randomness the other night removed the extra paint apps on a Classics Starscream, but that's a different story I suppose :lol

Energon Skyblast could become Powerglide. I know that the combiner leg has a better alt mode for it, seeing as it resembles a Warthog like his G1 form. But, while Skyblast is a Skyfire homage, he has that jet nosepeice crap stuck to his head in robot mode like Powerglide in G1. Instead of flipping it back down, you could keep in up when transformed. You'll only need white and red to paint it.

Good ideas, all of these. But they only onvolve paint. Has anyone attempted any serious mods to address the shortcomings in some of these figures, such as adding real legs to E-Downshift?

Here's what I've completed myself as alterations. I hope to someday have all of the Minibots completed as larger versions. I'll just list the ones that I haven't modified but use as other minibots.
    Seaspray
    [IMG][IMG]
    Warpath
    [IMG][IMG]
    Blast Off (wrong color)
    [IMG][IMG]
    Huffer and Powerglide

I better get the camera out since I have a couple more complete but I never photographed.
    toy was: > G1 minibot:
    C Swerve > Windcharger
    C Clocker > Tailgate
C Overhaul > Brawn ( need photo, Head sculpt)
    C Armourhide> Pipes
C Hardtop > Beach Comber (need photos, repaint/rollbar change)
    E Strongarm > Swindle
    E Kickback > Brawl
E Stormcloud > Vortex (Stormcloud more available than Blackout, Need photos)
E Barricade > Onslaught (WIP, needed him for complete Bruticus/not minibot)
Just need a Cosmo, Cliffjumper, Bumblebee, Gears, Swerve and Outback (could be C Brushguard repaint) Aerialbots are in the next reply due to picture amounts per post.

The one that I'd really love to do would be a Cosmos, but I can't think of any mold that would work for him. Anyone got any ideas. Peace out.
