@Spence do you know if G1 toy colors were ever planned as a later variant for this like MakeToys did Gundog?

To me the Takara jet mode looks way better but this one is okay. I like how the vertical stabilizers can cant outwards like the F-15SE. The robot mode really sells me....a Starscream that can pelvic thrust!

 

IMO, he would look better with a bigger head, with that head he just looks like this.

 

Hopefully this gets through to MT. Pls just work on the faces, as in the regular and the smirking. There is something wrong with them, they are bringing the figure down when looking at the figure from the front (ie 99% of the time / fans). The one that he is choking is great though. They did a great job with their megatron and jazz, so hoping they do it right with starscream.

The other thing is, but secondary, and not as crutial as the above, but if some of the hollowness can be addressed, that would be super.

 

Yep. Everything is full-tool on him except the undersized head (which is kind of a typical MT proportion, but they really should make an exception When they have a hyper-toon-accurate body)

Sorry, I actually don't know all the recolors planned but honest, I would not count on it at this point. If it has not been announced at the same time that a recolor is part of it then unlikely.

Not to be harsh but you do know this is impossible at this point right? The figure is done pretty much and all that is being done is tweaks and minor mold changes. There is no way at this point that any major changes could be made. Besides all this bad face talk on all the threads are a west thing. In Asia this is never a big problem. 3p companies listen to the east, not the west.

 

Agreed. This would be a definite buy, but the size of the head and look of the face are off putting to me.

 

Articulated fingers on fullsize MP bots would be welcome. And slightly larger hands. Or are tiny hands another eastern preference along with the awkwardly unnatural facial expressions? =p

 

Loving this. Those new photo's have me still sold on this, and I may have to get Despotron as well!!

My only gripes are:
The face is too dark - which I will happily fix with some silver drybrush or possibly grey paint
And the hollow wings. I'm picking up a 3D printer soon as a fun toy for myself, so I may look at printing out some panels I can glue in to fill those gaps - can't imagine they would be a very complex piece to design - the shapes seem pretty simple.
Lack of decent hands - but they look like pretty standard hands that clip over the mushrrom peg, so I'm sure an alternative will be possible.

I like the gold canopy and would actually prefer if the whole thing was gold instead of gold under transparent. But to my eye looks much better than the clear canopy with the visible cockpit on MP-11.
I'm fine with the painted details on the shins - far as I can recall they were always flat in the toon and the shin thrusters was solely a toy thing.
Paint and colour scheme looks great, nice and glossy. Loving that he has multiple faces (though the smirk does look a tad ... off in some pics)
Lack of upward tilt is a meh thing - plenty of MP's have limited head articulation.

My only thing is I'm not sure we've received confirmation of Seeker repaints out of this? I mean it seems obvious but AFAIK, Maketoys haven't specifically said they would, let alone Coneheads. Please don't let me down MT - I want all six!!

 

So despos faults seem not so huge, but for a 100 dollar toy I still expect them to actually improve on those 2 mistakes instead of keep on selling diy megs.

 

@Spence, can you dispel these rumors going around that Maketoys is going out of business? I sure hope this is not the case.

This is difficult to get fully on board with. For all intents and purposes this is not just $130, it's 130x3 minimum for those of us that tweak if it (collection) is not uniform.
Looking at it as $390 that wing back becomes a bit more bothersome. The head is whatever but I hate seeing what should be the inside of a figure. Totally breaks the illusion for me.
Then there is my personal history with MT figures.
Despotron lost some initial luster and became least favorite Megs.
Hellfire is still in my primary display but arguably fell to third as well.
I loved their Jazz but Coolsville went from a temporary "let's see" figure to my preferred Jazz head flap, hollow wrists and all.
I'm getting that vibe again from this even though I really really want to like it.
I don't think MT is keeping up with the pack...

 

What do you think caused Despotron to lose the luster?

I must be in the minority of people who want this.

 

Only in my opinion of course, but the small head and his uber calves began to bother me after a bit. I ignored my initial gut feeling about them because he has a lot of awesome but now it annoys me. Kinda like a hot girl with a flaw you just can't unsee...

 

My only problem with this toy is that I have to wait so long to get it.
