Transformers cybertron, the third and final entry in the Unicron trilogy that ran from 2001 to 2005. It was preceded by transformers armada and transformers energon.

None of them were particularly "great" as transformers series, however they served as "g1" for an entire generation of fans such as myself.

Besides Cybertron Megatron and Galvatron another deco of this mold, with a new head, served as the updated form of the GoBot Vamp in some Fun Publications stories.

Wow, that’s megatron deco is just bloody awful. The Galvatron colours may go alright as a Megatron character in my OptiMegs collection, but only if the size is right and the head is a LOT better than the hideous leader class version. That purple face and the weird black cat ears. Uurrrgghhhh

The Cybertron Megs/Galvatron design is one of my favorites from that era, so I'm glad this is apparently up next.

Takara/Hasbro gave us pretty good, screen accurate versions of these Galaxy Force/Cybertron characters. I don't feel there is a gap needing to be filled by third parties. Just my opinion, though, but I think other cartoons could use more love, like the unreleased characters from Animated or all characters from nuRID (really crappy toys there, Takara).

Although I think it's great that Maketoys (or any other 3P company) is dipping into later series -- and I have their GF Starscream on pre-order -- I will honestly admit that at this moment I have zero interest in this.

Of all three designs Megatron sported during the Unicron trilogy, the Cybertron/GF version was my least favourite -- he did have an incredibly and amazingly awesome headsculpt though (and I considered getting a toy of him just for that head at the time). But I liked both the Armada and Energon toys of Megatron a lot better, despite their obvious flaws.

But who knows, maybe they will surprise me.

Bought GF Master Megatron when he was first released and I thought it was a great figure. Loads of character, good articulation, interesting evil batmobile alt mode. In fact, GS was a really good toyline in general. Sold him off together with all the GF stuff because I just needed to focus - but I would really consider getting an MP version of this guy. The only thing I'd really ask for is a weapon that has long quad-barrels like in the cartoon, instead of the hairdryer that the GF toy came with.

If they had started with GF Convoy & Megs, all of this Galaxy Meteor trouble would have been a non-issue.
There are a lot more collectors who get lots of OP/Convoy figures, than folks who get Starscream figures.

Well the show models were based on the toys to an absurd degree. Like Evac having the red push lever beside the rotor housing that drives the spinning gimmick on the toy. Mech iDeas tried to give some new Animated toys a few years ago, but gathered little steam at the time. I also think that RID '15 is too recent to garner enough support to be viable for third party companies right now. But why not Galaxy Force? It's old enough now that there's some nostalgia for the series and people who grew up with it now have some disposable income to purchase modern updates.

Granted, Megatron is possibly one of the least needy characters from the series for an update, but Maketoys may as well get the big three out there if they want to make this a viable thing. (and both Optimus and Starscream are good but definitely have room for improvement)

    Agreed totally.

I think that Maketoys making Galaxy Force/Cybertron Starscream but not making Optimus/Convoy and Megatron/Galvatron would be a mistake. Making one or two but not all three of these characters into toys would be a missed opportunity.

The talk of other characters that "need" to be made into toys is true from a fan perspective but from a business management perspective the reality is no 3P company is going to be able to completely make the line up of a particular show so if they're going to make any characters, it's more likely going to be of the "big three" of Optimus, Megatron, and Starscream, before anyone else.
