The metal they selected is too brittle at the size of the parts, pretty much

So far so good. I've ordered from them before and have yet to encounter any issues. Only con (if you can consider it one) is length of time regarding delivery and even then Robotoy tends to ship faster than most companies overseas.

Reading comments about others Axle breaking is making me think twice about dissembling Guardia to mess around with the individual bots.

There was someone at the top of this page that was selling one a little while back. I'm assuming you mean the whole set?

So, I'm thinking of selling my CW Defensor to pay towards Vulcan, and eventually Guardia.

So, over the past few pages I've seen discussions of fragility, particularly with Axel. Then there's the issue of certain aspects of the various transformations being overtly-fiddly messes. Are these issues I should be concerned enough about to call the whole idea off?

"Diecast" is mostly zinc. Not exactly a metal known for strength and durability.

I have both CW and Guardia and love the Guardia set far more. You are right to proceed with some caution. However when you are armed with the knowledge of the issues/challenges, you shouldn’t worry too much. Having said that, this is a very different experience from anything in CW. With the CW stuff you can chuck it up against a wall and put all the pieces back together again. (my son has proven this on more than one occasion) (note: not intended for toddlers)

When both are in their combined mode there is no comparison. Maketoys’ version is far superior in looks, stability, posability, and all around fun factor. Sure CW is way easier to switch up and go through all the modes and has some great cartoon inspired robot modes. But it isn’t the piece of engineering art that Guardia is.

You will need a little patience and care with Gardia but you will be well rewarded. Now if you are a big hamfisted guy you might have a hard time working with him. The transformations are more complicated and nuisanced than CW and sometimes you need to incrementally move several pieces to get to the next “step” in the series of transformation sequences.

Honestly I think it comes down to what kind of “experience” you want. CW is easy and not too expensive. But it’s floppy and cheap feeling, and limited in posability. (Not to mention that hot spot fire truck mode is lacking) Maketoys is just plain badass all around but you got to work for it a bit.

If I haven’t scared you (not my intention) I do so happen to have an extra Vulcan that I want to sell soon. I believe I still have the box too if that’s important.

If you have more specific concerns about Guardia, let me know. I know it’s a lot of money to drop for this set but I’m very happy with my purchase.

No fear here. I have a few 3p items here and there, but nothing as complex as Guardia. And, fortunately, I'm not ham-fisted :)

I'll keep in mind that you have an extra Vulcan, too!

TFSource had few members of Guardia on sale during their Black Friday week sales. I believe Vulcan was $40 off. =\ Been wanting him as well but couldn't pull the trigger. >w<

Just thought I'd pop in for a second to say that after two years this is still one of my favorite combiners ever. It's not perfect, but hot damn is it beautiful in all three modes. I know that this scale isn't very popular anymore but I really miss MT's combiner series and it bums me out to think that this is probably going to be the last one.
