Not totally familiar with online news outlets, is that one even reputable?

And I really hope they are training for head shots.

Who else but Maine to train for the invasion of Florida.

According to Stephen King, they deal with that shit all the time.

Everyone should prepare for this, but not "just" in the case of zombies. Instead, it should be for the overall breakdown of society & all of its resources, as that's the real threat of something like a zombie infection, not just zombies running around.

Using state resources and taking emergency responders away from their duties to train for something that's impossible doesn't hurt? Tell that to the mother who just lost her child because the resources weren't there or couldn't get there in time because they were off at fantasy camp.

This is the question more of you should be asking.

It's a Russian news service that's come under fire multiple times for publishing conspiracy theories.

At the time of this post, some headlines on the site included "Divers claim 'Baltic UFO' shuts down all electronics within 200m" (about the Baltic 'Millenium Falcon'), "Putin accuses Bolsheviks of treason" (Blaming them for the loss of WWI), and a column entitled, "America: Drugged up, dumbed down and crazy dangerous".

You do know that they don't take them to training without a replacement to cover their shift right?

Depends on if the skills they learn training for that impossible situation are transferrable to other, more likely situations.

But yeah, they don't send people for training without leaving someone to cover things sufficiently in... like... any occupation that I'm aware of.

I think there seems to be a weird trend of using "zombies" as a stand-in for other, more likely forms of social unrest (which makes sense, given the social commentary inherent in modern zombie films from the beginning). I'm on the fence as to whether or not it's a way to make preparation and training seem more interesting, or legitimizing paranoia by way of pop culture.

Taken in the context of the comments of the people in the article who were part of setting this event up, I get what they were trying to do, and actually think this may have been a good idea. New diseases are bound to arise considering that viruses and bacteria are always changing, and the opportunity to train people in managing resources in the case of an emergency event caused by a new disease is something that should be done.

As for the zombie part of it, that was just more to add a bit of a fun factor to the event by using something popular. There was no serious training for zombies (otherwise it would have been a shooting range this was held at I think), so I don't get what the big deal is. All it was was an outbreak event training event, but with a bit of popular culture thrown in there to make it more interesting.

    Just putting it out there.

A Zombie attack/ outbreak is the same as any other viral outbreak. First off during the great panic you need to fear other uninfected humans first. They will be your greatest threat as everyone is looking to flee but also stock up on supplies.

I'm sure it sounds stupid when you think of it as a zombie thing but at the root of it it is just about a large scale viral outbreak.

SOme people think way too literally.

    edit: Sokar gets it.
