I got this guy, he's definetly the Machine Wars Megatron Mold, but he is not the same colours at all, but he has the takara markings and dating 1996 on him, is this a knock off, variant, prototype?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Judging from the look of the plastic quality I'd vote KO. Have you looked on tfu.info to see if you can find it on there at all?

It's actually a nice looking figure in person, better colors than the actual MW Megatron (BW2 Thrust is my favorite version of the mold, though). FYI, it came with a two piece gun that seperates into main gun and barrel and hides in the calves. Hope you got that with him, too.

Plus, those smaller Machine Wars figures tend to look a bit like knock-offs anyway, due to the general lack of paint apps and poor colour combos. They're pretty weak overall, though I do like most of the molds.

Honestly, I think that's supposed to be Megatron and the green one is supposed to be Megaplex. If nothing else, Megatron should look better than his stunt double, but also the packaging of each toy shows the colors of the opposite toy. "Megatron" is packaged with an illustration of a silver robot. "Megaplex" is packaged with an illustration of a green one. The factory fucked up and switched them.
They were unused G2 molds in a cheap repaint line done as a little-known KB exclusive. It's no wonder the quality isn't amazing. They look a lot better with some G2 faction signs from Reprolabels though.

The RobotMasters version of the mold is pretty keen though

I just always figured that Megaplex WAS Megatron, and that the deception was so good, it even fooled Hasbro. That way I just swap the names.

I saw the Robotmaster molds have KOs. I was at Big Lots looking for the Micromaster Aerialbots yesterday and saw them. Looked about like Megaplex does there.
