so i bought call of cthulhu and other weird tales on impulse. pretty wicked stuff!

ive heard of this stuff since listening to the metallica track way back in high school, and friends have recommended it to me since, but only yesterday, browsing the local bookstore did i finally picked up my own copy.

any fans of this particular sub-genre of horror out there?

Gothic horrors are cool. I was into it when I was like 15. (Happy kid!)

The Shadow of Innsmouth and The Dunwich Horror are my favourite.

Along with the above, i'm also quite a fan of his stories: Dreams in the Witch-house, Pickman's Model and The Whisperer in Darkness

I haven't read a lot of it but I love the overwrought style.

And Cybertron Unicron is the King in Yellow.

    edit: Oh hell yes, Ferret.

Yeah, Lovecraft's stories are awesome. I hope Guillermo Del Toro gets to do his At the Mountains of Madness adaptation.

The horror at Redhook, The tree, The Festival, At the Mountains of madness, The Whisperer in the Darkness, The Colour out of Space, And the Music of Erich Zann. Yes, I'm rather familiar with his work.

Lovecraft's stuff is awesome, and from a literary standpoint has influenced modern horror a LOT, even if many people arent that aware of it. You WILL get sick of the word 'amorphous' eventually though :)

Lovecraft himself was actually inspired by Poe in some ways. Mountains of Madness has some direct links. What also interested me was Lovecrafts circle of friends and how they all contributed elements to each others stories (Such as Howard and his Conan/Kull Stories) Interesting stuff.

Ive read alot...I love how the main character always seems to go insane! Anyone play the xbox game? Man that game was freaking hard. That ghostbusters link was pretty cool!

My faves...rats in the walls, picture in the house, and the music of erich zann....the chtulu stuff is a little over the top though...as far as horror goes. Those crazy OLD ONES...what will they do next?

Colour out of space rulz! Read it! NOW!

How about Dagon? Not a perfect adaptation of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" - which is my favorite story by Lovecraft - but damn good. For those discovering HPL, the short story Dagon has nothing to do wtih the movie.

I figured you for a Lovecraft fan, Ktulu. :)

hmmm.. got to love Lovecraft.... shadow over innsmouth.. call of cthulhu, cats of saturn.... there was a really great one I read that he had done of a fly on the wall, taunting a hunter in Africa I believe, it was spelling out words in human blood with it's feet. Twisted version of Charlotte's Web anyone?

KA, I think I have some of his books here in my house that are collecting dust if you want them.

I'm a big Lovecraft fan. I'm planning to take a trip to his grave when I'm in RI (he's buried in Providence).
