Looks like AFA, under the guise of VGA, is now grading video games. You can see one of the auctions here

    What a world!

File this under W-T-F. I'm looking forward to when they expand into AFA'ing things like bottles of fine wine, cars, etc. Why not put anything you can collect into a plastic box?

Wait, what's the point? Comics and Toys I can see. You can display those and not feel bad. Video games though have one purpose. They go into a system and play software. That's like grading CDs and DVDs.

to play devils advocate, comics are to be read, and toys are to be played with, thats their purpose...so this is really no different..sucky to be sure, but no different. "feeling bad" is subjective.

Though admittedly not as many toy collectors, a good amount of people collect games also..so naturally you have a subset that only collect sealed.

Video games are not the same as DVDs and CDs. Those have an infinite shelf life..cds and dvds can always have more copies pressed. I can go and buy a sealed copy of pretty much any CD or DVD movie made 10 years ago with little to no effort, and pay retail price or less for it. The same cannot be said with video games, try getting a sealed copy of pretty much anything anything by atlus, square, or konami for what it retailed for these days

I collect games and consoles, though I intend to use anything I buy. I own a bunch of NES games in their original boxes (some mint or close to it), some Gameboy games in mint boxes, and a still shrink-wrapped copy of Sonic 2. All my Genesis games are still in boxes too, but those cases are hardcore, so it's no surprise.

I'm seriously considering sending in my copy of Sonic 2 to see how it fares, since I already have a copy to play.

I aint surprised. You should see what ppl pay for sealed older games only to have it as a "collection piece" Worst I seen is a sealed copy of tZelda for Snes..went for a couple 1000 SEK.No wonder if ppl buy that they have no intention to play it , might as well grade it.

I can sort of understand old NES, SNES, Genesis games, etc. I guess the actual packaging and cartridge would be worth something. But there are other ways of getting the game itself(Emulation, Wii Virtual Console, etc.).

    But today's stuff? Absolutely pointless.
