This has been driving me nuts for a few years now. When I was a small kid, I saw a movie that freaked me out, and I can't figure out what it was. Here's what I remember:

It came out in the late 70's/very early 80's, and I probably saw it on HBO at that time

It was about some people who got trapped in a house/castle by demonic forces

They tried to cut the front door open with a radial saw, and someone's hand ended up getting caught in the blade

There was a trap door in the basement that led to hell, and they meet the devil, who was either played by the guy who played Boss Hog, or someone who looked a lot like him.

It scared the hell out of me as a 5/6 year old, but I'd probably think it's really campy if I saw it today. Any ideas?

You got me stumped. Horror movies are usually my speciality, but I can't think of anything that fits that description exactly. It sounds like a lot of the various 70's horror flicks.

The part that really stands out in my mind is the guy getting his hand cut off. They're trying to cut through this door, and this idiot is either leaning up against it or doing the cutting himself, and the saw goes right over his hand. It looked like he had plenty of time to move it.

I could be wrong about the devil being Boss Hogg. His filmography shows nothing like that, I really just remember the devil being a sweaty fat guy with horns.

That MAY be it, but I can't be sure. It doesn't really sound like it, and it doesn't say if he's the devil or not.

Still, I should look into it.

I don't mean to go off topic but I'm also curious about this horror/comedy show. It too was in the produced in the 70's.

These are the things I remembered:

    i) The people were wearing "old" English-style clothes like Sherlock Holmes.

ii) The villian was like creating Frankenstein/Wolfman creatures and the creatures if I remembered correctly could grow from a dismembered hand.

iii) The good guys consisted of 2 male leads and a female lead.

The show wasn't scary just cheesy...can anyone help me?

That sounds familiar, like some old 80's sitcom...Anybody remember that old wild west sitcom from the 80's? It took place in a saloon mostly, kinda like Cheers in the 1800's.

Sounds like "Dark Shadows", but maybe not.
I remeber this, the dad from "Silver Spoons" was in it, and he hd a sidekick named "Frog". I want to say it was called "How the West was Lost". But can't seem to find anything called that.

Anybody remember that Gargoyles movie from the 70's? That freaked me out.

And the one about the Devil Dog that turned into that giant monster.

The Gargoyles movie was awesome, even if it was made for TV.

I'd love to know what the movie in the original post was. Sounds like something fun to veg out to. The power tool meyhem is an added plus.

OMG that's IT! It even has pictures. Thanks, just seeing those pics brings back creepy memories. I remember that ghost too, it used to freak me out.

I need to find a copy of this somewhere.

Be prepared to be bored. It's definitely not a very good movie, even by horror standards. ;)  It has a couple cool moments and the camp factor is pretty good at the end, but otherwise....definitely NOT creepy in any shape or form.

The nostalgia should be good for ya, though. ;)  hahah...

    Glad I could help!
