Pretty cool DC, thanks for sharing. I'm really into astronomy, despite the strange ominous feeling I get from that stuff sometimes. It's kind of weird to think that we're on a giant mass suspended in space and orbiting a star, that in comparison to some of the other planets and stars in space is but a mere speck, isn't it?

I love perspective photos like this. I have a desktop at work that shows Earth as a point of light through Saturn's rings.

Sometimes I don't think the human mind can fully comprehend how insignificant we are in the universe. We are on just one rock around one star in one of a billion galaxies. I once saw a giant poster that covered an entire classroom wall, and each 6 ft by 6 ft frame was an enlargement of a small 4 square inch area from the last one, that zoomed in until finally it got to Earth.

The vastness of it is amazing and overwhelming.

One neat thing is that when Earth is at its closest approach to Mars and the Moon is first or third quarter, you can actually see them from the surface as distinct points rather than just a dot.

No kidding. I can't even get a decent photo with my camera from four feet away with it's self timer. They're sending a camera 86 million miles away and still managing to get this stuff.

Great pics guys. Thanks for sharing. You know, I've always wondered what kind of photos of the heavens we could take if we could put our eyes out there in the sea of stars.

An observatory on the dark side of the moon along with a shit load of Radio Antenas would open our minds to so much more than what we can see thru our own atmosphere.

Its stuff like this I bought my telescope for, and I'm completely balls with it ;)  Still, I've seen a few things I think are really cool.

And me, I'm waiting for that planned deep space telescope array in jovian orbit that should be powerful enough to image earth-sized planets around other stars.
