My third son's councilor said it would be good to get him a pet he could help take care of, he asked for a "turtle" and now $200 later, we have this:

A Russian Tortoise, he is about the size of a baseball and will double in size as an adult:

Sit him next to something else so we can get a reference to his size!

My Gran used to have a Tortoise as a pet for years in Hong Kong, its gone now, but my Mum remembers it from when she was a kid, so it must have been 40+ years old.

Awesome score bro! Actually, now that I think about it, if you need any tips on it, let me know, my brother is a Tourtoise and Turtle Fanatic, and I can get some info for ya if you need it.

Damn, I still have your Xmas gift from last year to send you too still..

I took care of many turtles working in a museum. This one looks pretty cool. Take care of him, and if your son ever outgrows him, find him a good home, not a lake.

He's about 6 months old and Logan named him Dino (like on the Flintstones).

He seems very curious of his surroundings and active. I bought the special lights and such for him. Yes, he was sort of expensive but they are supposed to live 30-60 years.

    Heh, the red ear sliders.

    http://www.nrm.qld.gov.au/pests/pest_animals/declared/red_eared_slider.html

We have to kill them on sight here. Nasty little buggers too.

That tortoise is pretty cool though. I like the patterns they typically have on their shells. Scary thing though is it has the potential to out-live your son....... But it can bring great joy in the future if it's still around when/if he has kids of his own, they'll be able to enjoy it too.

I can imagine in 70 years the conversation in the pet shop now...

'Hey guys! Bobs back! How did it go?'

'Yeah my new pets worked out great, they fed me, watered me, got me some of those wicked sweet lights for my tan. Hey, they even named me Dino!'
