    Ha, nice.

At least the TF film *should* get #1 for it's opening week.

That's what you get if you have a rather weak trailer and are arrogant enough to think the other movie will be a Power Rangers-esque kids movie.

No surprise, though I'm glad because I'll have a movie to watch that Friday.

Die Hard 4 moves away from 7-4-7

I have seen this on several other sites. It appears that after the immense response to the Transformers Trailer and some research Sony has decided to bump 'Die Hard and Live Free' up one week to be released on June 29th.

One such site reporting the new release date is:

    http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808403725/info

Confirmed by the official site: http://www.livefreeordiehard.com/

Right you are...guess I could have searched, wasn't on the front page of topics and I couldn't fathom people not takin the oppertunity to start yelling 'Awe shit now what am I going to do that day with nothing good at the theatre!'

The official Die Hard site always said June 29th. It said it before the Transformer trailer came out. They never changed the Die Hard trailer from the July 4th date but also never stated what of the two dates was the final one.

I do believe a minor "pwn'd" is in order.

But seriously, it makes sense. Having two movies that are essentally marketed to the same crowd open on the same hurts both and is just and all-around bad idea.

    "Behold the power of Transformers."

Seriously, this has me jumping for joy now that Die Hard(which I am also psyched about) will be released earlier. Now I can go see both films instead of just choosing over one(I still obviously would have chosen Transformers over Die Hard) to go see that day. This is awesome! Now I can see both! Good move on Sony's part!

Hans Gruber may have been no match for John McClane, but apparently Megatron was.

originally Fantasic Four 2 was supposed to open that week, but right now.. nope. nothing else on July 4. Thats also a wednesday, so there may be a smaller release comedy or something put out on the 6th (friday) that isn't competing directly with Transformers.

Isn't this backwards? June was always the date until the trailer came out and said July 4th. I'm pretty sure there was a thread in General Discussion about the trailer that discussed how the movie had been moved to July 4th. But there's been no actual news of it moving back to its original June date. Transformers hasn't scared anybody.

edit: If anything this is just a couple of websites that haven't updated for the new release date revealed in the trailer

Perhaps the movie takes place on the July 4th weekend, and the movie release is June 29th.

I think that's right. July 4 being on Wednesday this year, you basically get 2 "holiday weekends", Friday-Wednesday and Wednesday-Sunday. Last time this happened, or maybe even the time before that, I remember some late night joke about deciding whether to take off Mon-Tue or Thu-Fri. I don't think Die Hard ever officially changed from Fri., June 29, but just threw "This July 4th...dundunDUN" in the trailer because...that's just what you do to promote the inevitable slam-bang action movie that comes out around that weekend, and because of the Wednesday thing, technically it's not inaccurate.

This thought had occurred to me as well. Regardless, there's been no back-peddling cowardice here and this isn't news.
