sorry but we dont know that either.

The evidence we have is inconclusive.

    Its 50/50

50% chance Wheeljack, Brawn and Windcharger lived.

50% chance Wheeljack, Brawn and Windcharger died.

And the same can be said about any Tf we never saw again.

I remembered i read somewhere that Wheeljack did a quick futur review and saw that he would meet his end, and he created a dupliacate clone of himself into tricking the Decepticons in thinking he is the real Wheeljack, like i said i dont remember where but i will search for it and show it to you

    Fan fiction most likely.

Takara had some other story explaining it for the Japanese Binatech series.

None of which is relevant to this topic since were talking about Hasbro's continuity.

I'm pretty sure their deaths were certainly what the creative team intended, though.

It would be instructive if we could interview them and get a definite answer. "As far as your intentions are concerned, did said characters die in the movie?"

    that I can agree with
even if, the answer wouldnt really be "definitive".

A] no matter what their intentions were, only what actully made it to the finished film is "truly definitive."

B] we know that they had to "tone down" some of the violence in the film to make a pg rating.Such as what was done with how they intended to kill Brawn

it could be that they even had to eliminate some of the deaths , or make them uncertain, for the same reason

How was Shockwave supposed to die? He was still present when Unicron attacked Cybertron right?

In one of the storyboards I believe he was supposed to be squashed by Unicron.

    Or maybe cut in half.

Too bad it's not included in the film.

    Hello G1Trypticon

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R9jahKxojs

There you can see how Red Alert's death was scripted based on these story boards.

Also a dead robot that might be Sideswipe can be seen on the scene when Arcee is dragging Windcharher's carcass. Shockwave's death was scripted but never propertly done, actually you can see Shockwave (colored green) on the third season premiere File:Shockwave5Faces.jpg - Transformers Wiki
Prowl can be seen on Headmasters despite the fact that he was clearly killed and the same goes for Wheeljack who can be seen on Victory. Hope this works a little more for you than some of the replies here. Cheers!

This is an interesting thread, and one can argue some of the characters either surviving or dying. What we know for sure is
Ratchet, Ironhide, Prowl, Optimus, and Huffer died in the movie as it was confirmed in Dark Awakening.

We know that Megatron got reformatted in to Galvatron, Skywarp in to Scourge, Bombshell in to Cyclonus and some of the other dead decepticons in to sweeps.

Just because it was story boarded in the script does not make it official that a transformer died in the movie.

As much as people want to argue Wheeljack, Windcharger, and Brawn were not killed in the movie to answer the question. Does that mean they are permanently dead? No. Optimus was brought back. However, it's pretty clear they were blasted bad enough they were presumed dead. Especially with the Way Arcee was holding her her chest looking at their lifeless corpses.

In later episodes in season 3 we see Jazz who was at the end of the movie still alive, and some animation with no dialog for SkyFire.

But, on a personal note. It's my belief that Optimus made sure all of the fallen Autobots would have been revived at some point after the Golden Age of Cybertron returned at the end of the Rebirth part 3. So in my mind they were brought back, even though they technically died in the movie.

What about the direct evidence of Arcee being sad and mourning them?

Should be pretty evident by that part alone. It was obvious to show she was sad at their deaths and not just like "oh look they are injured".

    This.

Also, some characters presumed dead (like Wheeljack and Windcharher) might be in stasis lock (Stasis lock - Transformers Wiki) due to their injuries, not dead.

That is pushing it. Stasis Lock wasn't around at the time the 86 movie was made and out. That was something that came along later (And not even in G1). So it's pretty safe to say that those we saw that looked lifeless probably were.

If you want to believe in them being in "Stasis" lock then that's your choice of course but it's a stretch of a reason why they might not be dead. One could support that theory if indeed we did see someone alive after the movie like if we would have Seen Wheeljack or something in Season 3. Then that reconnected reason could be valid. But most we didn't see ever again. And if we did it was usually animation error. So yeah.
