So how about it? Though somewhat obscure characters, the timing would be perfect for an Encore release as a Big Mission #4 (containing exactly 2 from each faction), thus completing the American cassettes. I just wonder what the viability of it would be, in terms of mold condition and/or if it is even available. Moreover, since it would be a Japanese Takara reissue, and these were only available as mail-away over there, would that serve as any kind of hindrance?

I think an encore re-issue of both of the US released "combiner" cassettes would be fantastic and easy money for TakTomy. Easy money. I dont know anything about the molds, and I dont pretend to, just saying - if they make em - I'm buying. And like you said in the opener, the encore line has had some rather obscure releases.

I'd love to have two more sets

To get the Dino-combiner-tapes and the US-combiner tapes

I never could keep track of the cassettes over the years.

The only intact ones I have are two Ravages and a Laserbeak.

    I really want Ratbat,Rumble,and Frenzy.

Anyone know where they sell those three?

Ratbat just got released with SDCC Soundwave as well as in the Big Mission #2 pack with Ramhorn, Steeljaw, and Slugfest. Frenzy and Rumble are being released in Big Mission #3 with Ravage and Overkill.

I wasn't even aware of the dino-combiner cassettes. It seems they command quite a price on the secondary market... Are they exclusive to the Autobots?

I figure it's at least a 50/50 shot at this point.

hasbro at comic con and online sold soundwave for 50 plus tax plus shipping. hasbro sold out online twice.....not sure if they'll get more. after market might be your next resort. give it a day or two, i'm sure hasbro has a lot more lying in a warehouse.

These figures are #1 on my list of G1 reissues. I'd LOVE to see them remade. And the dino cassettes! My music-based TF collection will always be incomplete without them. :(

    slam

I wish I could get a Slugfest and Overkill, and Eject, but I would have to pay a crazy amount since I do not want the others in the sets.

Are the tapes 100% the same? On the Ramhorn and Steeljaw the gold weapons do not look as good as the silver, on Ratbat the gold looks better.

Considering the Rumble/Frenzy mold started to be left for dead by fans, only to have Takara pull the mold out of mothballs, it renews my hope for the cassette combiners. I'm not worried about the Japanese cassettes as much as the combiner ones - I want those. Overkill, Slugfest and Ramhorn getting reissues may help strengthen the odds of 'if the molds are intact, Takara will do them.'

Now if they only have the molds in one piece...
