Here's what happened. It was starting to thunder and the radio announced a storm warning so I decided bring the animals in. While I was trying to coax a cat from under the deck a bolt hit the trees just past the fence. It was pretty bright and loud. I've never been that close to a strike, and I hope to never be that close again.

I remember seeing this manhole cover get struck a few years ago as I walked passed a window, and I thought it pretty much the coolest thing ever haha.

So how close did that put you? I've been about 20 feet from an ultra-rare superbolt...during the 2011 Super Outbreak April 25-28...sheer force of the thunder forced the air out of my lungs, & even knocked me back a bit(er, forward, because the lightning scared me so I turned around & leaped across our porch in a single step)...heat made me sweat a bit. I laugh about it now, but the moment it happened, I thought the gates of Hell had opened up.

Storm and Thor playing lightning tag?

Now THAT would be a spectacle.

Try eating a piece of bark off that tree and let us know if you gain any super powers.

Several years ago, lightning hit a transformer right outside our house, which proceeded to blow-out our TV. I have you beat. :p

    yikes.
When I was in high school, lightning hit our house. It hit the roof, went through the wall, hit my parents window frame, which shot the curtain rod across the room, and blew a hole in the wall. then it went through the wall, and out my bedroom window.

I slept through the whole thing. lol. Woke up to my mom yelling CALL 911!

@DecepticonSpike: Ah, only a bit further than I was. It hit anything? When I had my run-in with that superbolt(my luck, I go outside for a closer look, get one of the most powerful lightning forms there is), hit top of a tree, saw a pop & burst of light...purty, but effing scary.

@Surge: ...You must've not ready my story where I got an ultra-rare(but possible) superbolt, & was inside the - demonic sounding - thunderclap due ot my proximity(20 feet max, probably only 15 feet) to the strike. I was the "lucky" winner out of all of us who got the rare phenomenon...so I win. :p

@TacomaPrime: You sleep through the destruction, yet your mom's yelling - which probably wasn't as loud - wakes you up? ... :lolol

I don't know if it hit anything. My first thought was that I better get inside before I was featured on 1000 Ways to Die.

Good thinking. Glad to know you're alright, I can certainly relate, I've felt a similar - but, for obvious reasons as indicated in my story, probably more intense - terror & speechlessness. Since you're alright, might wanna do what I did, & just laugh about it now that it's over. Me & my friends/family laugh about it now, especially me & my parents. My little "flash step"(Bleach fans will get that reference) across my front porch & the look of "OMFG" on my colorless face must've been PRICELESS. So just laugh it off, you'll feel much better about it. But like me, lightning may bother you a bit more than normal for quite a while...
