Legends are both canon and in continuity. Canon because it is official story added by official maker of the transformers franchise. In continuity with the Japanese g1 continuity, especially since headmasters characters appeared. And, if you don t like these comics, takara is extra carefull at not disturbing the cartoon stories. A few examples: Headmasters prologue(happening after final episode of headmasters): autobots are under attack, a weapon make them reduced in headmasters size, so they have to become headmasters and build transtectors, including blaster and blurr and scourge. Unite warriors : they revived (again) Optimus prime to become his combiner wars self , but he died 7 days later- so he can be revived as star convoy, the 1990 toy version of him. You also have stories from other cartoons like beast machines and animated: - animated slipstream is chased as à decepticon in her world. Animated swindle makes her travel in legends world. - beast machines : waspinator rhinox and rattrap travel to legends universe and then return during their time after last episode of beast machines ended. - Black convoy prologue (car robot 2000 being in Japanese g1 continuity as well): the destrongers attack "brave Maximus 2.0" (virtual repaint of titans return fortress Maximus) because 1.0 crashed in a foreign world, the world where g1 fortress and chrome dome were, fortress designed g1 fortress Maximus With wreckage of brave Maximus 1.0 , his toy repaint- this was stories told in kiss player. So basically, if people don t like legends comics, it is ok as it does not disturb previous stories. But is still canon and in continuity, thanks to extra careful storytelling of takara. And that is why takara is cool, they pay attention to every continuity, g1, idw, making small references everywhere, but not disturbing the continuities if you don t care.
