I'm looking for an audio recorder with a line in port. I'm going to be recording lectures with a direct audio out feed from the sound board and want to then load them onto my computer to put them up as a podcast. I've seen the Zoom H1 has what I'm looking for, but it's priced at ~$90. Does anyone know of cheaper alternative?

This is the board I'll be jacked into via the "rec out" ports.

IMO, $90 is the cheaper alternative.

Why not record directly to the computer and skip the middle step?

^ Both laptops I have access to are quite dead, and since this isn't at my house I'd need to bring my full desktop (tower, monitor, mouse, keyboard) to the location and set it up. Every time. I don't even think the laptops would work anyway, Audacity's help files say it's best to use a line in port and not a mic port.

Sorry, I did assume you had a laptop. Being in IT, it is second nature to me to just have a laptop available.

Do you know anyone that would let you borrow one? If your laptops are quite dead, will $90 fix one? Do you have a cell phone that has a mic connector in the head phone jack?

Don't know any I could borrow. Not sure what it'll take to fix the laptops- one probably needs a new battery, but even then it doesn't have the line in port I need. I tried with my Droid Incredible 2, but it won't use the headphone jack as a mic port by any means I was able to divine. Good thought though, that would have been aces if the phone worked.

edit- tried to snipe on ebay just now but got out-sniped. May just buy one outright.
