Level variety alone won't make a good game

Mission variety helps a lot. The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction would have been boring if every level made Hulk have to run around smashing stuff. Having a mission where you have to escort an engineer or something though boring adds variety. Or maybe one where you infiltrate Decepticon territory to download data helps. Just so the game just about shooting things. I know it's a shooter but that's a term that describes the game in a nutshell.

Is not just about shooting. There're times when you have to do differnt things, but however you've to shoot to get through. But what you're saying is to have missions other than use a gun, well is obvious that you've to, cause the game is a shooter, even if it only was like that, it would't be boring for me, due something like WFC having a unique 3rd person animation design and concept.

Doesn't this game have Mission variety?

Jazz has a lot of grappling.
Cliffjumper's missions are more stealth oriented.
    Prime's seem like run-and-gun.
Grimlock is more melee-oriented and building up meters.
Vortex seems to be more open-ended.

You're confusing unfocused, unconnected sections with variety.

Being forced to alter your play style is not variety. It's just different types of repetition. Variety allows you to, in any given situation, solve a problem in different way with different outcomes. As a loose example, variety would be playing as Jazz and being able to switch between run-and-gun, grappling and dodging, or stealth. Not forcing you to use only one aspect.

Either stick to one aspect and focus on polishign it, or offer true variation. Do not simply splice together different play styles with no control and call it variety. For example, while playign as Grimlock you just stomp and slash, or stomp and chomp. There's no variety, which wouldn't be a bad thing per-se if it weren't for the fact that said stomping looks boring as hell. Even when you switch to alt mode there's little difference.

    May I ask why not?

On topic, this game looks alright. I'm expecting cheap shooting fun with some half-worked Grimlock combat. Variety is not a make it or break it thing for me.

I personally want either health orbs from defeating enemies, or self regenerating health. That was the ONLY thing I didn't like about WFC

Sure it is, you are still varying your play style and not just keeping with the same style of gameplay the entire experience. You'd have a better point if all the characters in FoC operated the same way as they did in WFC but as we have seen in gameplay trailers that isn't the case.

You want a more open-ended design like Hitman or Deus Ex which is fine and dandy but that doesn't refute the fact that FoC is offering varied gameplay during the entirety of it's solo campaign.

So the dark of the moon health regenaration? I hated it as it was to hard to kill players because there health constantly regenarated when they ran away

Bleh, health regeneration is for babbies. Plus like ^^ said it'd make it too hard to knock each other off in multiplayer.

I'd like more driving sections myself. I love speeding down the highways and I think it'd be neat to explore more of the city through the streets.

Also, adding more things to interact with like they did with the turrets would be cool.

That is exactly what Tieger said they're adding. At least in Vortex's level.

I believe that regenerating health was confirmed?

As for variety, Optimus is running and gunning, Bruticus is smashing, Grimlock is smashing. It's all about destroying enemies in one way or an other. Though this fact can be disguised, this game is already in a sense repetitive. It's just not as blatant as Iron Man's shoot the orange targets. I'm still excited but I think it's a good point.

I'll use Hulk as an example since I finished it. In the game we had:

    - Smash object (combat optional)
    - Protect
    - Retreive and transport to (x) (combat optional)
    - Infiltration (combat option)
    - Disposal (combat optional)

Yet there were different ways to do these missions. You might want to clear the area of hostiles or you may just chose to get the item and get the heck out of there. The fact is you're not forced to take out targets. In WfC I'm sure that in most if nor all levels, taking out hostiles was compulsory. But maybe that's the nature of this TPS.

Sure you can take on a mission in robot or alt mode but isn't the level in the end to get from the beginning to the end while taking out those who stand in your way?

But varied doesn't mean it's not boring.

The gameplay could be repetitive as hell and still be fun.

For example, one of my favourite games is Dark Souls. That game in a nutshell? Run around and hit things with your weapon until they die. You might get a new weapon once in a while, but for the most part it's run around and hit things with your weapon until they die.

I'm starting to think that if FOC forces me to alter my play style every level, no matter how cool the idea is I will get pissed eventually if the levels are not long enough to get used to each character.
