Today's deskbot, in the only pose I'm going to attempt with him until his replacement knees arrive from China. Both were broken right out of the box, and I exacerbated the situation while trying to fiddle with his lower leg / ankle. Those knee pieces seem to be the texture of really stale caramel or something, but my word are those colors beautiful...

How much photography vs photoshop are you using. At first I thought they were pure composites but I see now they are not. You really have a good eye for the lighting effects.

    I would love to see this in stop motion with composited effects you have going on

Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it.

I believe that real is always better than CG...in both film and photography...so most of these shots are 97% real with as little added as possible in photoshop. For example I'd rather use real smoke to create atmosphere than a filter...it just usually looks better...especially for rays of light. But sometimes you don't have the option, and a well done composited element can work well if it's used sparingly.

Stuff like laser blasts or glowing eyes can be done pretty well in Photoshop.

If I have to composite something, I try to take a photo of something real (out of focus effects like light refractions for example) and use that to composite with before looking for something on google or using a CG element. It's always better to shoot real I think...and its always better if it comes from the photographer if possible. :)

I actually don't mind the transformation of this mold, I just always forget to tuck his head and chest in until the end and I can't remember what to do with it. Then I remember he has to basically put his head between his legs and kiss his ass goodbye.

As for my deskbots today, the colors work really well together in-hand, if you don't care about things like scale:

    Oh you mean this one?

Yeah it works great if the pose you're after is "stand straight up and pray the taffy knee doesn't choose right now to finish crumbling". :)

New knees arrive from China sometime in June, hopefully. They're plastic though, I couldn't for the life of me find any of those swell die cast chromed ones that were floating around a while back. If you ever get a line on some, I'd love a tip off.

Oh gawd, same as what I THOUGHT mine suffered from, but the shaft inside the knee is busted on mine too so I cannot even use repros to fix him up. I need a whole new left leg. Also, I prefer the plastic repros, I tried the die cast ones on a regular Hasbro one and the screw just wouldn't thread all the way. Much more success with the plastic ones thus far.

I mentioned on another thread, but to me (and from the distance of the internet) it really looks like your leg shaft might be repaired with a trim and a pin. For reference, here's a pic of that shaft intact with a large paper clip run through. The paper clip is probably just a shade too small, but not by much. By the time you get the glue in, it might not actually be too bad.

All that said, I have no idea how the thigh plastic would respond to the glue, so maybe I'm talking out my ass, here...

Small bot again for me today! I liked the look of him running through everyday objects, and I liked how the colors came out too.

(And the answer is no, he doesn't balance like that. I cheated and used some museum gel on his foot so I could get the other foot off the ground. I regret nothing.)
