Are we really comparing the TF movies to Shakespeare on any level? OK, I understand what you mean - at least I think you mean water down Bayverse Prime's cheesedick over the top lame ass dialogue. If so, then referring to it as 'Shakespearian' is horribly inaccurate and an insult to Shakespeare and anyone who has ever read Shakespeare, but otherwise yes, it needs to change, but not to make it more like most cartoon versions. Of course, I really never had a problem with G1 Prime's dialogue (yes, the cartoon had many issues, but Prime's dialogue never stood out as bad to me), and BW Primal's way of talking was good (note the W, not M, and yes, I realize that Primal was younger and less experienced than Prime, but his dialogue and interaction with others was better, more natural, and far less ridiculous than Bay Prime). So, I guess the target shouldn't necessarily be the cartoon, but...hate to draw this comparrison again, but a good character model for Optimus Prime's actions and dialogue is the MCU Steve Rogers. IDW Orion Pax and MCU Steve Rogers would react the same exact way to any situation (aside from scenarios where transforming is an option), and I like IDW Pax (not so much the heavily flawed Messiah Prime they're pushing now). So there, that's the target they should shoot for.
As in Optimus being grandiose and destiny's child? It deserved to be removed or at least toned down, and I'd like to see Optimus go back to being a good soldier and commander.
D_E_A_T_H B_4 D_I_S_H_O_N_O_R sure, why not? I quite like Transformers: Animated Optimus Prime, who didn't seem all that sure about himself or his statements, but still did the best he could. A leader shouldn't always have to be an untouchable
Yeah, I don't really see a lot of shakespeare in movie optimus prime. "IS THIS A REMOVED FACE I SEE BEFORE ME?!"
"Those possessed of wit or wisdom should forever remain unshackled" "Alter ye now thy configurations and propel thyselves onward"
I never would've had this thought before reading this thread, but live action Optimus does sound kinda like Gravemind from the Halo series...
I've read, Twelth Night, A Midsummers Night Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, it really was NOT anything like Shakespeare's writings.
I think you have Optimus confused with Beast Wars Dinobot. Nothing in the movies on any level can be compared with Shakespeare. He's generally regarded to be one of the best writers in all of history while Bay movies are generally regarded to be absolute and utter trash. Beast Wars Dinobot on the other hand is known for literally quoting from Hamlet. If this thread isn't about Beast Wars then you should not be even mentioning Shakespeare.
I just wanted to say that you want to remove the thing that always makes TF Movies (and not only Movies, series and comics have it too) deep and philosophic and really unique, comparing with other big hollywood movies. It's ridiculous, you want to remove distinct design, Michael Bay, wanted to remove Ehren Kruger, give Bumblebee voice... You complain every day. You can't just throw away public opinion and stereotypes, sit and enjoy the great movies, get pure emotion, tons of interesting thoughts and powerful inspiration. You are just unhappy people.
I have officially seen everything, a comparison of TF 2, 4, and 5 specifically to Shakespeare... Optimus should be just as philosophical and grandiose as ever. "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings." "Fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our own choosing." "In any war, there are calms between storms. There will be days when we lose faith. Days when our allies turn against us..." I, for one, get chills whenever I rewatch and he says those lines. Let's not try to remove the few legitimately inspiring lines with gravitas in this franchise.
