    Anyone else notice this pattern? I fell like, especially with Generations, they havent done many lately. I mean, here I am, hoping to get Tailgate out of Windcharger, any of the implies headmolds from instructions... is it just me, or are the gaps between repaints getting huuge?

    I've been getting that feeling too, and even shit like Firetrap wasn't exactly a repaint of anything too recent to it.

    Ebay:
    Hasbro still does it's fair share of repaints. But now they are putting on new heads and remolds. The main reasons for not many repaints is Hasbro's current move to smaller figures.

    As for Generations. It's actually fairly even.

    Original (10-15)
    WFC Optimus
    WFC Bumblebee
    WFC Megatron
    WFC Soundwave
    Drift
    Kup
    Warpath
    Straxus
    Thunderwing
    Scourge
    * Track
    * Jazz
    * G2 Prime
    * Perceptor
    *Wreck-gar

    Repaint/Retool (10-11-14)
    WFC Cliffjumper
    Red Alert
    Thrust
    Dirge
    Thundercracker
    Blurr
    Skullgrin
    Black Shadow
    Junkheap
    Wheeljack
    * RTS Bumblebee
    **TRU WFC Optimus
    **TRU WFC Bumblebee
    ** TRU WFC Megatron

    So bitch as people did about why Habro bothered with the RTS line when it ended up being so short-distributed, it gave us half as many new molds as Generations.

    Yeah, I actually like repaints/redecos of Classics toys. But I'm fine with there being less redecos overall.

    The only thing that makes me leery is the potential for the repaints to be saved for Botcon.

    I was under the impression they release less repaints in the same line and save the repaints for later series (like some ROTF repaints released as DOTM store exclusives).

    I think they are repait-horny as ever, it's just that they've focused so heavily on repaintable molds in chug that they are starting to run out of bots they could be repainted into, I mean, yes they could repaint Jup in bright pink... but instead of being a character that (G1) fans could easily recognise him it would just look like a pink Kup.

    There is no doubt in my mind that we will see all the possible repaints in those 40 generations though

    I hate movie repaints because they always look like shit. Generations repaints I'. usually cool with because they're geewunny.

    To be fair, a lot of the Generations/RtS figures that haven't been repainted were "later" releases that came towards the end of the line, like a lot of the stuff that turned up around mid-2011.

    I don't mind repaints, as a long time fan I've been trained to watch for them since they can be cooler than the original deco on a toy. There are a bunch of Classics repaints I'd probably buy on the spot: Nemesis Prime (RtS Laser Prime), Toxitron (RtS Laser Prime), Sweeps (Gen. Scourge), Sunstorm (any Classics Seeker design), an interesting RtS Jazz recolor, etc... Stuff that could be out now to keep the Generations line prominent while waiting for new molds.

    A part of it might be that they have new heads and other parts designed ahead now and so they don't have to do a straight redeco. I think a lot of us are more likely to think of these toys (like Grappel, Tracks, Black Shadow) as entire new toys rather than just a simple redeco like "Powerlinx Hot Shot". The fact that they're completely established characters and not just same-dude, different-colors.

    I think this is why we feel the 100 Bumblebees and Primes in DotM were so horrible, we're a bit more used to getting a new character, and even new parts too. The redecos in DotM were literally just variants on the same color scheme even, so they were not even as different from one another as the UT-era redecos.
