Ok, so this one's a little weird. Several years ago, I received a Lego set for Christmas that contained a villian in a tophat. As soon as I saw the little guy, I thought he reminded me a lot of King Diamond. This week, I decided to give it a try. For the uninformed, King Diamond is the lead singer/songwriter of two of the greatest metal bands ever: Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. The songs are definitely on the darker side of the spectrum and King Diamond's style is certainly a reflection of that. I had wanted to make this guy for awhile now, but I could never figure out a way to get the detail that the face paint would need. As I was going through my closet when cleaning my room this week, I found a kit made by Testor's that lets you print your own water decals. Eureka! I scanned a picture of King Diamond's face from a CD booklet and scaled it down to fit on the Lego head. I painted the head white and added some hair. I swapped some parts from other Lego figures to give him black legs and crotch. To finish off the look, I made him a cross from the bones from a skeleton figure that I got with a GI Joe DVD pack and painted it gray to give it an aged feel. This one is definitely different, but I had a cool time making him! I have a strong feeling that this is almost certainly a one of a kind, so that ups the cool factor for me! As always, comments and critique are very welcome!
