Anybody ever see it? I personally thought the book was better, but the movie was okay. I really like Skinner, he's awesome. xP

And Sawyer, he's cute. xD -brick'd-

I think it some of it could've been better. Like... have a better trailer with a little less green, perhaps.

But I think they did a nice job with the effects- the Nautilus, the car chase scene, the falling buildings were also pretty good. Dorian and Mina healing, Skinner's invisibility...

I heard there was an original comic it was based on. Anybody read it? Was it good?

Yes it is based on comic. Currently there are 2 volumes in graphic novel, which is not hard to find. Go get it. :D

What really sucks is because of this film two big names stop making films. One being Sean Connery and the other director Stephen Norrington.

Vex, I don't understand - you mention that the book was better, and then go on to ask whether the original comic was any good. Aren't the original comic and the book one and the same?

The movie was a great fantasy adventure. The only sore spot was Tom Sawyer. He felt very out of place, being the lone Yank, now I know why as apparently he doesn't feature in the graphic novel.
Still, despite his addition, I still find it fun to watch and perhaps a sequel will come from it.

I personally thought the movie was a lump of shit. And during a period where every movie I saw in theater I loved, including Queen of the Damned. And this stood out because of the terrible acting, completely non nonsensical plot and the fact that it butchered the book so, so, so badly that I pray we never see a sequel.

The movie was very good. Lot of hatred for it because it changed the characters from their appearence in the comic. Good thing Alan Moore was totally faithful to the original characters. I'm sure none of the original writers would have had issue with the changes Moore himself made. :inquisiti

As an adaptation of the graphic novel, it's a complete and utter failure. It seems like the film was based on a brief summary of the premise and a list of characters involved, but no one actually bothered to read the source material.

Taken on it's own merits, I think it tops out at mediocre, but isn't terrible. I didn't mind the inclusion of Tom Sawyer in theory, since he's also a literary character from around the time period in question and his presence doesn't violate that part of the premise. However, the use of Tom Sawyer as an analogy for America was heavy-handed and overdone. The worst of it was cut out and only shows up in the deleted scenes on the DVD, but enough stuck into the film that a number of Sawyer/Quartermain conversations are thinly-veiled USA/UK analogies. Otherwise, the film was entertaining enough, but not all that memorable or good.

I watched the movie before reading the book, and I thought the movie was cool, actually.

Never read the book but thought the movie was ok. It was somewhat entertaining, but I don't know that I would really want to see it again.

When compared to the comic, the movie sucks donkey balls. As a movie though, it really isn't that bad. I still watch it from time to time.

it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. never read the comic so couldn't really raise a fuss over that. it's a guilty pleasure when nothing else is on and it comes on FX

Well, I meant the movie adaptation book. I got it in a used book shop. Books on movies always seem to be better than the movie. Like TF2. The movie was okay, but I liked the book version better.
