Update 9 Aug 09: Wheel mods

After seeing Strikegundam's Prime I had to do the forearm mod, but I wanted to keep the swords.

I cut away the hinges, swapped the panels to the opposite arms and then cut them down and shaped them. The smaller panels on the back of the arms are on a ball joint. I used the red shoulder pieces from a voyager Prime under the larger panels.

I cut the swords off at the wrist and attached them to the back of the hands, they can't pivot anyway because of the LEDs.

hmm.. but this mod will render your prime un-transform-able right? Looks much better though. But some of the guys here might not like the idea of having a TF figure that can't transform. I don't mind though. I'm all for movie-accuracy :D

Yep, but I've never transformed him and never intend to.

pretty cool, but if going for a more movie accurate look, why not just axe the plates all together, he looks much better w/o them.

kewl! What about those kibbles on his shoulders? I saw Strikegundam making it more like the CG version with something stuck into it. And I think he also detached those two and attached them somehow to the panels on the upper arms... I wonder how he did that...

Because having them is movie accurate, they just need to be cut and angled correctly.

Since you don't intend to transform him, you gonna try to relocate the tires?

this may be or really is a stupid question but what did you use to cut it? the forearm panels, the part where they hinge from normally on a non-modded prime. or any ohter ideas how to cut parts of prime, thanks!

    great mod btw

I used this saw blade to do the cuts, then used an exacto to remove the dags, and then the file to clean it up.

A smaller blade might be better, I had to remove those small buttons that make his swords flip down to get the blade square with the hinge.

The only thing bugging me so far are the tires overlapping. I've seen only one custom that had the tires setup correctly. Is it really stiff or can the top one be forced to stay straight on the bottom one?

You can't do much with the standard wheels, they will always overlap. It wouldn't be very hard to relocate them though.

Next I want to do the upper arm panels:

I have these from voyager Primes legs, they should do the trick.

Matt black base with silver drybrush, the small details are bronze base with a gold drybrush.

Here's the shoulder panel, I might spin the tank around and modify the other end to match the cgi.

Getting the others off is a bit of a pain, the hacksaw is starting to look good.

If you're gonna repaint these, will you apoxie these to look more accurate?
