    Both - not either or.

MP Prime is exactly what the name says - a masterpiece. In terms of overall engineering where this thing turns into a toon/comic accurate 12" figure with gimmicks like the hidden light-up matrix, no open/exposed parts, flip-up arm panels, etc., it's a true marvel and should be #1 on any G1 Transfan's "must get!" list.

Movie Prime is an entirely different kind of awesome. His alt mode is dead-on accurate, and the perk that he has over MP Prime is that he has more play value. His transform is semi complex, but nothing to the degree of MP Prime where you feel like something could break at times. And his cost is much more affordable.

So basically, MP Prime for collectors & display sake, and Movie Prime for playability & fun. IMO anyway.

He's boxy? The vehicle mode sucks?!

He's a cab-over, which is essentially a box on wheels. WOW. You learn something new everyday!

You don't need to be an expert to pick a favorite, so do which one you like the most. And if you've already played with them, go with your gut I suppose.

    Exactly

Hey, onesock! The vehicle mode sucks when compared to real cabovers. Movie Prime comes out better because the designers didn't have to sacrifice the vehicle mode to obtain a robot mode accurate to a 23-year-old cartoon. Granted, a trucker would say both fucked up a lot of things, but I'd lay odds that MPOP fucked up more.

Anyway, given that I bought a Movie Prime as soon as feasible, and I've turned down MP and 20th Op every chance I got, I think it's pretty clear which one I prefer. MPOP's robot mode is stunning, I'll admit, but it's not something I want bad enough to buy even at clearance prices, let alone make room for in my display case. There's so much else that's cool.

I love them both dearly, but put a gun to my head and...

Movie leader wins out. By the slightest of margins. That engineering is just too impressive to deny.

Well I don't have Leader Prime yet, so I was just saying that Split Lip using boxy as an insult is kind of stupid. Because that's just what G1 Prime is. A box.

That's ok! I know "I did not buy him because I do not like him enough to want to own him" is a tough concept to get around. But you'll grasp it eventually! I believe in you!

To Be Honest I have Leader Prime and I kinda regret it for some odd reason. I dont know. I think its his bot mode. I love his alt mode but theres something about his bot mode that puts me off. I think its his head. Or legs. Other then that hes perfect.

Movie Leader Prime wins in every category until you stand him next to your MP01, MP02, MP03 & MP05. This is the point when you realize what a Masterpiece actually is and understand where the extra $55 went. This is a good thing since I like to play with my giant f'n robots and only confine Movie Prime to the glass prison when I'm asleep or away. If Movie Prime was chromed, diecast and wasn't 40% generic grey, he just might make the Masterpiece grade.

Masterpiece = unmatched display piece, Leader Prime = ass kicking toy

Ditto on that. MP Prime's got the nostalgia base going for it, which is the primary deciding factor for most, I'm betting. When the wave of movie hysteria passes through, Leader Prime is going to go mostly ignored by me, regardless of how awesome he might be. the Voyager version may have more life in it, 'cause he's funner to mess with.

I love both Optimus but its Master Piece for me. Its a working of engineering marvel and will stand the "test of time" test . One instant look and one can tell its a "collector's piece".

One of the main reasons for the popularity of movie Optimus is the upcoming movie. Its a good toy though and probably the best Optimus in a "main line".
