So I have the choice to buy leader class Ironhide, or HFTD Leader Optimus Prime.

Whi h figure is better, and that I won't regret?

The question would be, which one is harder to find nowadays. Also, Prime has several version, of which the cheapest on is the Battle Hook version that's been seen at discount stores for as low as $19.99. Ironhide, though, is a little bit harder to find. Unless you want to pay extra moolah for it.

While I would take the original ROTF Leader over the battle damaged HFTD, Prime is a much better figure overall.

Ironhide's not bad, but Prime is alot better. Less kibble, more articulation, more accurate.

This, but unfortunately, that battle damage is the ONLY thing keeping me from getting him. I mean, if I can find someone to trade a battle damaged version for a ROTF Prime, I'm all ears.

    So, I'd get Ironhide.

Prime is by far the better toy in general, but the HFTD deco kind of sucks. I'd probably still go with Prime on this one.

The HFTD deco isn't the best but it also isn't really that bad. I've only got him and I really like him.

This leader Prime is far better than no leader Prime IMHO, and he only cost me $20 new.

I was easily able to sand the blackness off his face while still giving him the battle veteran look. Here is what he looks like after a light sand around the black areas of his face. I also have the ROTF version of Leader Prime, but I think the open mouth and face of HFTD version actually shows much more character

I only have the HFTD Leader Prime, but it's a solid figure and you can fix the more annoying "damage" paint easily without modding experience (I just removed the ugly blot on his face)

While Ironhide is indeed sweet, If I had to choose I'd go for Prime first.

On my HFTD Prime, I painted the face up to get rid of the fake black battle damage on his face. Here's mines. check it out..

Now don't get confused this is my HFTD Leader Prime...

Skip both and try getting ROTF leader Optimus if you can, unless you prefer the battle hooks.

Now that I would get! I didn't realize there was so much detail in his face! But I have no, absolutely NO modding/customizing experience in the slightest. Not one bit, unless you count tightening ball joints.
