Hi Everyone! Here's my first new project in a while. I'm attempting to replace DOTM Leader Ironhide's head with a G1 version. I've taken a lot of visual cues from the IDW Ironhide Spotlight miniseries. It's completely hand sculpted out of Sculpey. I might look into having it casted so it'll be more durable on the completed figure. Eventually I want to give him a G1 red paint scheme too.

I've taken my DOTM IH completely apart and noticed that the head assembly is very complicated. So if anybody has ideas for how to get the old head out and add a ball joint head in there let me know.

Saw the head apart at the Place, where it connects to the Body and you have a Base for mounting a balljoint :)

I like this idea. I love that Iron Hide got a Leader Class figure though he had to die to get one! But if you start making more send me a message as I would love to buy one of you.

I've done a little more with some refining on the mohawk. I still need to add the circles on the sides, the sides of his helmet that reach to the front of his face, some detail lines, overall smoothing out....and a hole for the ball joint.

I'm open to comments and critiques. I'll even start off with some some self critique. It's too big. When I sit it close to Ironhide's shoulders, it's about 10% too large. It's awful plain for a very detailed movie body, and the medium (Sculpey) is too fragile. I dropped it from a height of 5 to 6 inches down to my work surface and some cracks developed and my heart broke. That's why I'm going to invest in some aves apoxie sculpt.

The University where I'm located has a 3D printing lab, so I'm going to see if I can have it scanned, reduced, smoothed out, and printed out 3D.

Lastly, please suggest some affordable 3D modeling software so I can try this online in the future.

Affordable 3D program? How about Blender, it's free. :)

And your sculpting is pretty good. Maybe put in some lines and details on his helmet to go with the movie aesthetic more.

Thank you so much for that Blender lead! Downloaded it tonight, now I've gotta master a pretty steep learning curve. :)

Progress made on his forehead vent and side helmet flaps.
    Still to go:
    a. Circles on sides of helmet.
    b. Detail lines running from front to back.
    c. A few movie glyphs.
    d. Maybe teeth...not sure.
    e. General smoothing out of texture

I do too, I wanna see yours as well!

Thanks for bringing this back to life. I've pretty much finished the sculpt and will post updated pics. (of course there are still tiny rough spots) That said, I'm really sad that's it slightly to big to use on the Leader Ironhide body, not to mention needing some form of connection point. Very brittle too since I used regular old sculpey. I was looking into redesigning it on shapeways.
