Part 3 of my "Making a legendary" series and to celebrate season 3 coming out tomorrow i give you the WING SHIELD!

To make the shield i created a template, which i have posted here
Non-TF: - LD Voltron Wing Shield Template (for combiner) for others to use.

The blue bit was cut from a plastic case i bought from Michaels. it is such a good color fit and its thick and durable.

The handle isn't shown in the show so i decided to kinda match the sword design. its made from styrene tubes and sheets

its a partsformer if u will. the piece that accepts the wings is molded from poly-morph. I heated enough to form a 1" wide by 1 1/2" long block and waiting for it to cool enough then shoved in the wing connectors to conform to the shape giving a nice snug fit. The lines are hand painted, they could be better but taping never works for me.

looks pretty good without the fillers, but its not legendary! i used lego bits to make connection points and styrene pipe. and hand crafted the filler pieces. someone with a 3d printer could totally do this so much easier. props for cutting by hand?

    BEHOLD, GALVATR......WING SHIELD!

It can be held facing straight forward

or to the side like a natural shield

    and an aerial shot

the biggest downside here is that the elblow joints sucks hard. whoever thought these were good should be shot in the face. these are the weakest joints on the whole figure and i will need to do some future polish to see if that helps. I can still strike some kick @$$ poses.

That looks great! Is it difficult to remove the wings from black lion?

nah, you just gotta give a little tug, its a friction joint. just be sure to hold the gray plastic piece with the wing so u dont snap the wing off of it.

Looks awesome! I'm patiently waiting for someone to work out the wings for the black lion seen in the final episode of season two.

Yeah I figured something like the wings would have to be a pop in and out add on. Just would need to use the same attachment plugs as the oem ones.

I think one of the 3rd party designed Nova Primes had the hinged wings allowing them to be flared out could be a source of inspiration.
