What? No poll? Just making sure we're clear here. The recording says "Laurel". THERE IS NO YANNI. Anyone claiming that they hear yanni is lying.
The first time I listened I could hear either Yanni or Laurel if I focused but then the next day and ever since I can only hear Laurel no matter how hard I try. So I guess my ability to hear certain frequencies changed within a day.
I agree that there is no yanny...and other online polls seem to confirm it. But it's apparent that some folks just can't hear the "l" consonant sound and somehow also mitigate the "r" consonant sound to "n". They aren't lying that they can't hear it...they simply just can't. But it makes me wonder how many folks out there hear a completely different English language than I do.
You didn't read the article...at all...did you? So to say that people are "lying" means you don't know how we process sounds through our auditory system. But here: Yanny vs Laurel explanation: Why people hear different names when they listen to the same audio clip Go read that and edumakate yourself.
I read about the science behind all of this and it's actually pretty fascinating. The way the ear canal works and the ear 'hairs' work is downright cool.
Why would I even bother reading it at this point? It's already stated for a fact that "Laurel" is what's said. Who even cares now why people were hearing "yanny". The debate's over.
So you're not going to acknowledge the fact that you were wrong when you said that anyone who head "yanni" was lying? Ok.
Update, listened with headphones and now I hear Yanni and Laurel, the latter in a lower pitched voice.
One video I saw about this said that if you're exclusively hearing yanny it might be because you're younger and don't have damage to the high-pitched 'ear hairs'. If you're only hearing laurel it might mean that you're older and/or your high-pitched 'ear hairs' are damaged. Really fascinating stuff. ... Hot take, Abrown. I agree, all the people that are talking about hearing yanny are liars, and we should shun them for their obvious lies. It's not like biology and/or age play a part in this situation.
