I may have to get this - always hoped that the Hot Rod colours Cyclonus would be mass produced.

Nice, but I don't care for the SG Universe at all. Wasted potential IMPO. Great for those of you that like it though. This'll be an easy pass for me.

We did have another toy planned and the character was not approved. We may come back to that mold down the road.

After that, we looked at a few ideas. There were some issues with those as well then it was suggested that we go ahead and use another Universe toy for an exclusive. We considered a voyager, but our Voyager Astrotrain did not sell as fast as we wanted so we thought a lower price point may work best all things considered. The other larger mold may have done pretty well, but again, at this point we felt a deluxe was a safer bet.

Since Universe Cyclonus was first announced a Shattered Glass Cyclonus was on the table. Different ideas on how to get him out there have been thrown around and ultimately we decided, at this time, offering him as a club exclusive would make the most sense. A very strong mold and an iconic character.

I will say this, I am planning a story featuring Cyclonus in our 2010 Magazine fiction special. Hmmmm, was going to tease about what the story will involve, but nah... too soon :)

Thanks for shedding some light Pete!

Now I'm wondering. If we get a Metalhawk figure, is this mold off the table?

Good point, I forgot our Metalhawk discussion from earlier this month. I've been pondering that. The slim silhouette in robot mode fits even better than the jet mode, plus the wings on the arms instead of back. Cyclonus has lots of advantages as Metalhawk over the available seeker molds. The Targetmaster can represent a primitive form of his shell, adapted into a TM and made a remote drone, as the Dinoforce's shells were, or Pretender shells in the Marvel comics.

Probably that SG Galvatron repainted from Cybertron Evac that they did a bio page for.

Looks great. Being a big Hot Rod and Cyclonus fan just made me giddy when I first saw SG Cyclonus from the comic last year. Between him, Dion, and Counter/Punch, I'm seriously considering joining for 2010, even if I can't make it to Botcon. Really wish I could afford the existing SG toys, Cyclonus would be lonely.

Though I'm slightly worried that this means we can't get Elite Guard Metalhawk out of the mold. Near as I can tell, Silverbolt (if only in robot mode) seems the only other suitable mold for Metalhawk. And if slow sales of an Ultra-class like Astrotrain influenced the decision for a smaller exclusive, a future Silverbolt repaint seems unlikely.

Unless it becomes an at-con exclusive... *shudder*

When I first read this via RSS feeds, I thought straight away "I bet it looks like Henkei Strafe", and guess what? I was right. This looks terrible. I mean, yes, it's got a lot of chrome, which could be nice, except for the fact that it looks just as bad as Henkei Strafe. At least he doesn't have as much white but...

    PASS.

I hope this goes on sale early in 2010 before my club membership expires. Its not right that there were no new club exclusives available in 2009. I renewed last year just to finish the combiner. I have no interest in Dion I hope I don't have to renew to get this for my Shattered Glass set.

Hmm, I think Strafe might be enough for me, but if the price is right.
