SNK Playmore officially announced KOF XIII. It’s going to take quite a bit for me to get excited about this. KOF XII felt more like a demo than a game. Maybe this one will have more than 20 characters, more than four backgrounds, the characters will have their old moves restored, and it might actually have endings. But none of that matters if the netcode is the same garbage from KOF XII. Wow, KOF XII really has a lot going for it, doesn’t it?
Hopefully they'll spend more time on the technical side of things this time instead of the graphics. Not saying I didn't enjoy the updates, XII was pretty, but lacking in content.
Started playing '94 all the way till '08. Then I stopped playing totally & never looked back since. Iori, Kyo, Ryo/Robert & Clark had always been my fave picks whenever I feel like engaging in bouts. Those were the days... ream: Were the later installments a big leap from where I'd stopped?
Well, XII got a major graphical overhaul, but it felt a bit slower and less technical than some of the preceding titles. The lack of characters and story also hurt it.
There were only 20 characters total. There were four or five stages (can't remember). The returning characters were missing moves. No Mai. No endings. Netcode was shit.
I'm glad to hear that they're working on this since I've been a sucker for kof since 99, but I'm hoping for a lot more content this time around as well. I think the graphics are really great, and I can deal with them changing all the moves around again (it keeps it fresh I guess), but they really need to have an actual single player game built in there and improve on the multiplayer netcode. As much as I'd like to see more characters added, I can understand there being a limited amount considering that they had to start from scratch instead of just recycle a ton of the original sprites. Plus, 95 started with only a few characters, so I can see how this could grow pretty rapidly, considering that it's pretty much a complete reboot of the engine. For single player they need the following though I think: - More stages to work through - Time trials suck - More modes - Throw in a real arcade mode with a story line at least - A boss - I don't care if they're cheap as Rugal has ever been. Just at least put in the effort. It can even be a regular playable character that is either powered up or has extra life or something. So long as there is a final, consistent enemy to face at the end it won't feel like such a joke to play - opponent teams - this is part of what made kof different from mvsc or other team fighters. The teams were consitent, and you were rewarded for going through with a standard team. It added a new type of challenge to be forced to go through with a team made up of 1 character you were strong with, 2 that were ok, and 1 that you sucked at. Give us this challenge back For multiplayer, pay whoever made the blazblue netcode to license it from them so we can actually enjoy the game online.
I understand for those of you who did not buy 12 that you might want to get on the KOF bus. For those that DID buy it, how can you support this company ever again? Compare what you'll get with SSF4 or even the upcoming new BlazBlue. Fuck SNK Playmore.
I'm kinda in CP's camp. Except I'm not stung that bad because I only paid $7 for the game. If I had paid $60?
Worst yet, I liked 12. It has good game mechanics. SNKP put out a bad product, not a bad game. Then they didn't fix the problems. That's what really pisses me off. Also, they canceled Maximum Impact 3. I hope their computers get cyber-AIDS.
