I got in the Sludge toy today and thought I would offer some images and my opinion of a few things with this figure.

First off, there it is very easy to tell this one apart from the original one. The plastic is VERY different. The plastic on this figure is more grey and much more like the plastic of the current reissues, softer, more bendable. The original had kind of a silvery metalic look to it where as these are for sure more grey.

The one I opened was good and tight. The tail seperation was tough, I had to get out a screwdriver to pry them apart. All the parts on it seem good and tight until I got it into the robot mode. One of the legs was very loose and just floped freely. A screwdriver quickly fixed the floopy leg issue and then it was good and tight.

There are some pretty big differences between the two figures. on the back of the Dino mode of the original there are some indentations for decals. They are missing entirely on the KO. On the inside of the 'wings' of the robot mode there are tons of detail on the original. Most of it is missing on the KO version.

The copyrite on the KO version is different from the Hasbro one. It is missing the Hasbro info entirely and just has the Takara info on it including the dates.

I think my only really big complaint is the paint on the chest. It is utter crap, like the Swoop. It is thin and chips are on it right out of the box. Very dissapointed in that.

Overall it is very well done. There are enough differences with it to ensure it is not confused with an original for anyone who cares to check it out. If you want a brand new unused unstickered Sludge and you are willing to dish the $80 or so to get one then this is a sure thing.

My vintage Sludge is C9 so I'll pass on this one, especially with the bad paint. It's my Slag and Grimlock that are really hurting so I think I'll get the KO versions of only those.

i'd like to replace my c5 sludge...but i could get a decent loose vintage at 50.

nice to see the subtle difference tho, that flat grey looks sharp actually.

I donno. I think the dull grey is pretty bad. And those paint chips! I'd cry if I'd spent $80 on that.

Wow, the grey really is different. Thanks a lot for the comparison pics!

(for the trademark, wouldn't that be the same as the vintage non-US versions?)

Yeah if not for the paint problems I would get him. That makes me feel better about passing on this one

I kinda prefer the grey over the silver plastic...but the crappy paint is what'll keep me away. Besides, I'd rather plop that money down on the KO Metrotitan.

The gray kinda reminds me of how they looked on tv. Drop the price and I would buy them. The paint probably wouldn't affect me as I am a MIB-MISB guy anyhow.
