No, I also think that the MP-03 slimmer profile legs and tilting feet were better in both jet and robot mode. If they took those legs, added MP-11 heel spurs and leg-mounted sliding stabilizer booms, I would have been very happy.

I also prefer the older null ray design without the ugly annoying armatures.

That's exactly how I did my MP-07 knees. Will probably do it again for this one.

As much as I want OS coneheads I'd be more than happy for them to go a little less all-in on the knees. The add-on knees on, for example, the YES model Thrust are more to my liking.

Yep, I agree on all of that. Improved jet mode is the added bonus.

Never understood the rear wheels on these things. If anything wouldn't it have been more accurate to a real F-15 to have the wheels open such that the wheel was on the outside of the door? Still not completely accurate but certainly more accurate than what we got.

Yeah, with such a gigantic knee, you figure they could have come up with something more accurate. Using diecast like on the front landing gear would have given many more options.

At least it's better than what the original MP-03 prototype had:

Or better yet, oversized Yes Model seekers/coneheads.

I actually prefer the prototype---those wheels actually have a strut attached and offer more than 0.5mm clearance before ending up "sitting on the gear doors". Even the KO's usually end up resting on the edges of the doors, because if the doors fold back in even like 2 degrees---you're sitting on door, not tire. It's hard to keep the doors FULLY open, and not just 95% open.

And yes, regardless, the doors should open in the other direction---wheels should be outside of the door, not on the inside.

Fair enough, I guess it would just be cool if they managed to get the rear gear more forward like a real F-15. That said, a forward flipping gear like on the old 1/55 Valkyries would have worked nice on these OS seekers.

Dave - back on the sticker front, is Reprolabels just working on OS Con symbols, or are they also looking at OS stripes and details?

Everything, at least for Thundercracker. (If it was just symbols, they'd be done already----but even a slight mold change during upscaling, will mess up wing and fin fitment, so it takes some tweaking to adjust the designs to the new OS KO).
Also, these stripes are definitely more accurate to the original G1 than their previous set for the original MP-07 etc.

I figure there'll be a bit of a pause while they're at TFcon.

I wish Reprolabels did dry transfers instead of stickers but I'll keep an eye on what they produce. The last reprolabels set I got was for G1 Sunstreaker and the print on the stickers all flaked off. I assume things have moved on in the last 10 years or so with them.

I'd give them another shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Just FYI, I tried VHT light gray vinyl dye on a spare CG-03 wing - I didn't even bother to wipe it down with alcohol because of the acrylic clear coat, and the dye seems to stick very well and doesn't chip/peel off.

This stuff is very nice, it doesn't add much thickness like true paint and seems as tough if not tougher than RC lexan paint. Just limited color choices.

I'm curious how vinyl dye works on the wing and ankle hinges, as they are "unpaintable plastic" AFAIK.

Right, probably POM or something similar. I'll need to come up with a different solution on those. Either sanding or filming with vinyl auto wrap before painting.

My OS Tanaka Starscream transfer decals arrived. They look to be of similar quality to the Ocean Design MP-11 set, but are more matte and a lighter violet, with no metallic luster. About 22mm tall for the big symbols.

TC and SW really need silver-outlined insignia, otherwise they don't contrast well enough against the dark background color.

And still too small IMHO--the current batch of Reprolabels I'm fitting are 34mm tall--thats 50% bigger than those.

Ok, I confirmed that sanding the black POM wing flap tabs will allow the vinyl dye to stick, and not scratch off. I had been keeping an eye on the MT Howling Meteor thread in case I decided to invest in another trio of seekers, but after the last reveal pics, I'm ready to take the plunge and buy CG-01 and give it a proper gray dye job, to complete my definitive trio of G1 seekers.

@jetrobo do you have a link for those decal sets?

Does anyone recommend a good seller for OS Tanaka Starscream other than tf-direct?
