So recently I came across this silly gem of a bootleg. Basically it's Laser Rod Optimus Prime, sans the light up features and with flames painted on the cab like Movie Prime. These are the kinds of bootlegs I live to find. You can keep the toy-accurate ones. Give me the weird/goofy interpretations and colorations!

The toy itself is pretty nice. Joints were horridly loose but were easily fixed with a screwdriver. Except his right leg, which slid loosely back and fourth inside his knee, which made it impossible to stand. Had to disassemble the leg and dab super glue to certain parts to make the leg bit thicker so it's tightened.

    Check it out!

Robot mode. Can't see in the picture, but his window boobies say "Prime Optimus".

Alt Mode. Love the Tijuana flame job.

Prime Optimus alongside my Laser Rod Prime and Japanese Black Convoy

Alt Modes of the previously mentioned three.

Comparison to another KO of mine. Bootleg Armada Prime with flames.

The part that really amuses me is the transformation instructions on the back of the package...

I feel sorry for the poor kid in Hong Kong {edit} that thought this really transformed into Leader Class Movie Prime.

The 'instructions' use chinese... Therefore the kid who buys it is korean for what reason? And does this really count as news?

That's really sad. They were able to get the flames right, on a bootleg, but Hasbro couldn't even get it quite right on the real deal. (no, I am not favoring the KO makers, and I'm not putting Hasbro down) It's just funny how things work out sometimes. =\

I've seen this around a couple of times on eBay for about $10 BIN. Been thinking about getting it just for the sword... obviously the toy would require some work to make decent based on your post, but the sword seems awesome enough.

    Okay. My bad.

As for posting in this section, this seems to be where folks post stuff about KO's they found.

Yeah. The sword was also the selling point.

Basically my G2 Laser Rod Prime doesn't have a sword because the guy I got it from broke it. So I needed a base to make a resin mold from and make a clear resin duplicate of said sword.

I'd use my Black Convoy sword, but I didn't want to risk ruining it while making the mold.

I think the whole "Prime Optimus" thing just adds to the silly nature of the bootleg. Though, yeah, the stickers are rather poor quality and I forsee them coming off completely.

When that happens, I'll just get this sticker set from Reprolabels for him.

Ah, I've got three versions of the mold myself (G2 Reissue, RID Scourge & E-Hobby Magnus) and they're my favorite mold (used to have the original G2 version before the reissue came out) for Optimus Prime and I absolutely love the sword... so much so that I want one for my Classics Prime to have in his hands and I've always thought that the one that comes with this particular KO would work wonders.

Interesting tidbit (just incase you didn't know), but the original G2 release's chest stickers actuall does say 'Optimus' on one side and 'Prime' on the other side. Silly, yeah, but no more so than half of what was G2.

Yeah. If you noticed in the pictures I do have the original as well. And the whole name thing on the chest plates is goofy to begin with. I pondered more than once getting that one reprolabel set for him.

Ah, I see it now. For some reason I thought it was the reissue at first glance... should have noticed the lack of chrome on his chest.

Original G2 all the way. I traded it from a friend who had it when he was in high school. Even got the gun and all the shooting disks and foam missles. Just missing the sword.

And my Black Convoy is the original Japanese (notice pink eyes and sword instead of red). I got him back when I felt that he'd never hit American shores aside from his mini version.

Though I do envy you for owning the E Hobby Magnus. That thing was extraordinarily expensive, even when E Hobby shipped to the states.

In vehicle mode he'd go well with the DVD spychanger Prime, but the bot mode is a bit bland IMO.

Yeah, got that through BBTS. He's pretty awesome.

I'd have kept my original G2, but I'd had him since I was a kid and he'd been through a lot when I was younger... :D

Yes, it's little things like that I look for on a bootleg.

honestly, i am nowdoubly surprised no that #1. this mold never got a store-exclusive release during the first Universe in G1-ish colors and #2. that this mold didn't get a store-exclusive release during the movie in movie Prime colors ala this KO, especially with how everyone was clamoring for any new product they could get there hands on.
