KO Crystal G1 Cassette Haul w/ Cassette Pics!

So I recieved a set of the Clear/Crystal Bootleg Cassettes from ebay. I have to say that I am very impressed with the quality of these figures. The clear plastic looks great with these guys. Small details like chrome paint applications and metal joints and toes really make these some of the nicest KOs I've ever seen. I love that you can see Frenzy's spring in his chest.

I compared the Laserbeak with a pair of KO Laserbeaks/Condors from the 80's (one grey and one in normal Laserbeak colors). While the 80's KO are also very high quality, they are also about 5% smaller than both the new KOs and the originals. So I think its safe to say that these are not using the KO molds from the 80's.

The only complaint I have about the new KOs are the stickers. They're very thin and hang off the edges of the piece. I'm afraid they're going to rip or snag on something every time I transform them.

Overall, if you're willing to pay the price (I paid $50 shipped for my set) and you can stomach supporting people making bootleg TFs, then I'd say go for it. I'm glad that whoever it is that is making these is getting creative with them and making them in fun colors. Had Hasbro or Takara made them in these colors, I would probably have not bought these bootlegs. I could even see myself buying more of these guys if they were in red or yellow, or even another colored translusent plastic.

    EDIT:
Cassette pictures are now up. Also, having gone back and looked at these again I noticed a couple things. 1) "Frenzy" has Rumble's red sticker. 2) That is a paint chip on Laserbeak 3) One of Frenzy's arm stickers had come off and the other was starting to, so I took them off. Like I said before, these stickers kinda suck.

Check out the gallery again for more cassette pictures. I compared them to the original Frenzy, Rumble, and Laserbeak as well as my 80's KO grey Laserbeak. You can really tell the size difference in these pics.

Frankly I would think the KO makers would have more luck selling them with changes like this rather than as a straight KO.

Is it just me or does Laserbeaks red piece look chipped on the right front top corner?

I think that's just the flash.

I also agree that this could create a whole new market for bootlegs.. there's already a big following for E-Hobby G1 repaints. That's frankly why I was so eager to get these.

the only problem I have with the KOs is the price range. I refuse to pay $50 for a KO toy and knowing that they are very cheap to make. if the tapes were a official Takara product then I wouldnt mind paying the $50 price tag

If the KO Cassettes were less than $20 bucks I would be all over a set (the same with those KO G1 primes).

I honestly believe these are limted to 100 sets. I can account for almost every one.

Right now, at 100 made ... $50 is a great price.

Well crap. I've been holding off on these cuz I figured the quality was in the gutter. Anyone know of any sites selling these other than ebay?

No. These originated from an eBay seller, so unless the seller decides to stock an online store, this is it.

Spirit-Of-Cybertron is hands down, the best out there. On top of it, he's located in the US ... so delivery doesn't have to slip though customs and get hammered by 40 different carriers.

He holds the majority of the 100 made. I think he got close to 40 of each set (80 total) with 20 going elsewhere in Asia.

As the lone dissenter I have to say I’m pretty unimpressed.

I’m usually a pretty proud supporter of “clear” TF’s but these ones I think don’t work all that well in the clear format. For the most part Rumble dosint even look clear, looks more like a white, kinda like he needs to be defrosted out of his icy encasing, and the plastic color doesn’t match up either. For example his legs look clear but his upper half looks white and has a frosted over feel. Same with Laserbeak, his head is white and the rest of it looks more like clear plastic and its not consistent and it stands out.

So ya that’s just my 2 cents but overall they don’t look good at all. Glad that you like them though, as long as you enjoy them that’s what counts so I’m not ripping on people who bought this set or anything. But for me I would rather drop that kind of cash on the Cobalt Sentry team or something else.

Did you check out the rest of the gallery? I think that "frosted look" is just from the flash in the first shot. They look perfectly clear in person.

    :lol

    Spirit-of-Cybertron started with 35 of each ... so there's 70.
    trainee007 had 2 of each, there's another 4
    duocons had 5 of each, there's 10
    wangyonghai had 3 of each, there's 6
lostangel52jr should have the remaining sets
(this count should be very close, give or take a few sets)

I can say that 14% are spoken for
