Hey guys, I just thought I'd start a topic for fun. :)

While we do have a Toy Discussion section on TFW2005.com, I thought it would neat to see some of your perspectives on which line(s) you collect and why. How does having a kitbashing mentality affect your TF collecting habits (e.g., owning Transformers both what Hasbro produces that you don't modify and those that you end up modifying and placing in your collection)? Do you feel that your kitbashing has a profound effect on your TF collecting habits or not? In short, how does your kitbashing affect your collection?*

(*Note, I'm already presupposing that you buy toys to bash, whether it's an extra of you only buy one to bash. That's another topic, so there's no need to really comment on that.)

I get whatever I think is cool and fun to customize, I don't really go be generation or universe. It's very random, really.

What is good, i get it. What is crap, i leave it. Duh. ;)

No, seriously, I generally buy the characters i want, and from those, find molds to make the remaining characters (that either don't have a toy in that style, or i just hate the toy Hasbro gave us). Also, paint schemes that i hated usually put me off before, but now that i can kitbash, i don't see it as a problem. Like Brawn is brown, so what? I'll make him green.

And yes, i did just pick up Brawn today with Lockdown.

I really just collect the Classics-styled lines. Actually in the middle of switching out all of my figures from Classics/Universe to Henkei!.

And really, anything I make/want to make fits in with the line. Either because the figures made of characters are figures I don't like (Galvatron, Powerglide), or we simply haven't gotten figures of characters yet that I would like (we know combiners aren't happening, or larger-scaled characters or figures now).

Really need to get back into the garage...

This, I do pick up a ROTF figure if I like it..but my collecting has slowed down ever since I jumped on alternity :(
I think bashing has separated some figures for me in terms of collecting/parts..eg. classics/alternity- collecting...movie line-parts

    - MP
    - alternators/binaltech
    - classics/universe
    - alternity
    - TFA
    - primes and megatrons

so far it only got affected once. barricade fell on the ground joint first while taking it out of the box. then broke. i had take a joint from universe blades to fix it. the head will probably end up as cup anyway. i normally of course buy doubles during sales.

my wife's dog however is killing me. it ate a GI joe: specialist trakker for my custom thunderhawk MKII, that tfa cheeto weapon, a hiss viper, and an entire couch. i'd kitbash that dog if it wasn't illegal.

I have the Alternity Prime, Megs, and BB...a few classics and universe....the MPs, and I could not resist picking up a Mcfarlane Robocop yesterday..... Some aliens and predator (really looking forward to the new NECA predator line!!!! I also like the TFA..Those are just fun..

I did like Marvel legends, but this smaller size for the same price really turned me off to that...

What TF lines? ...Just about any of them;)

Well, I tend to want my toys displayed together and (roughly) in scale with each other. So when I'm toy hunting I look for size first, then I look at the mold for my main rules of thumb... and often as not I'm thinking about how I'm going to repaint/kitbash the toy even as I first see it.

My main rules of thumb are
-trying to avoid shellformers unless I can 'fix' them (for instance my Energon/Cybertron Blurr has most of his backpack forming the sides and backs of his legs)
-Fairly balanced visually. While I like many of the movie toys, others I don't.
-Molded details. The Unicron trilogy and Classics lines especially.
-Preferably something that doesn't have too many high wear zones for the repainting that will come;)

The Beast Wars and other animal former toys are my primary exceptions to this, however I tend to go more for 'characters' then molds for them. I'm hunting a Hydra right now, for instance, and I can never have enough Cheetors;)

I've no idea if this is a good or bad way of going about toy hunting, but I've been doing so since the mid-80s so there y' go.;)

I tend to stick to G1 or anything even remotely resembling G1. I grew up on it and I've always wanted some of the more modern G1 styled bots, which is why I lean toward the Classics, Universe, upcoming Generations, and even some Armada, Energon, and Cybertron (some of which can be customized into even more G1 goodness).

I also collected almost every Alternator released, but sold most of them when money got tight (in between jobs and helping my fiancee's parents--one is disabled and one has cancer, so I needed money for necessities and gas to travel back and forth until I finally got moved up to GA to help full-time).
