This REALLY annoys me. I've just about had it with Tomy's money grabbing 'Collector focus'

From Autobase Aichi according to a column in the new July 2006 issue of Hyper Hobby, Transformers KISS Play Convoy will be made entirely out of plastic and no die-cast parts.

"...die-cast construction...it's a lost art." Optimus Primal Beast Wars season 2

More seriously speaking now, why not just buy it when it reaches the States? If you buy it from someone of hear, you're going to pay through the nose for it. They usually run for slightly less than 4,000 yen in shops.

I told everyone so since day 1. It'll cost more because of the additional paint + ridiculous figure + useless book.

.. a lot of us did consider a switch to non-diecast. I guess most assumed that since Kiss Convoy was solicited at a price in excess of a normal Binaltech., it must have diecast.

Tomy deliberately concealed the truth on this.

I suggest the BT collectors protest this right way...by keeping their wallets closed.

Dammit! The one Binaltech I was going to buy, and now it's nothing more than a ridiculously expensive Alternator. With a surfsword. Which makes me still want it.

What the hell is wrong with me?

I wasn't going to get him anyway but now I'm doubly not going to get him!

I really do hope the normal BT line resumes soon with Mirage. Diecast isn't as important to me as paint - that's what seperates the Alts and BTs for me more than their weight (and is why I happily picked up Alternators Silverstreak). Given that shiney paint on plastic looks the same as shiney paint on metal fingers crossed they at least maintain that.

Wow, that's a bit disappointing. From my point of view, Prime is about the worst Alternator to date. The die cast would have really upped my perception of it.

However, if the doors and front bumper parts don't fall off every single time I touch it and it doesn't regularly fall over backwards due to loose hip joints (all characteristics of my Alt Prime), then I'll still be pleased.

Let's not forget that Binaltech aren't selling well in Japan. Perhaps this is a cost-cutting measure and a move to hopefully get more sales.

As for the preoprder price on online sites, they are most likely based off current BTs and BTAs. Now that the word is out, I'm pretty sure online retailers will readjust their prices.

Maybe because as some of us have been saying, die-cast has little or nothing to do with the actual cost. As we've noted before, it's Japan's inflation, more than anything.

Unfortunately, though, the stores would only be able to lower their prices much, if any, if the wholesale cost goes down.

Perhaps i'm wrong, but in most cases aren't the prices listed based off the price info Tomy provided when the toy was solicited?? I just can't see the price of this thing going down.
It's one of those times i'd like to proven wrong.

Don't worry, next fall they'll announce 'Perfect Kiss Convoy' with Diecast parts and a 9500 Yen price tag.:rolleyes2

How would making a cheaper product that costs more inspire people to buy?
