    It amazes me that people;

    a) still care about killer instinct.

    b) ever cared about it in the first place.

    Ditto, whoever thought that an entire game based around dial-a-combo would be worth playing should never get work in gaming again.

    It's a shame the gameplay in KI was so bland. The graphics were always pretty (for the time anyway) and with some tweaking it could have been a nicely stylized visual experience. But time has not been kind the game. Do a major overhaul to the fighting scheme and then I might be interested.

    Just about every fighting game series out there is combo eccentric. Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, you name it. Hell, even Mortal Kombat!

    Killer Instinct just took it to the extreme.

    I said dial-a-combo, not combos in general. If you don't know the difference, then you need to learn more about fighting games.

    Eccentric isn't the same thing as centric either.

    If this is true, expect it to hit shelves in 2011.

    I know the difference. But my point is that every fighting game is combo intensive in some manner.

    Besides, had you actually bothered to read the article you would've seen that the "mash happy" gameplay you complained about has been dropped in favor of a more refined system.

    Which has what to do with the fact that dial-a-combo is lame and that Killer Instinct was even lamer for making it central to its gameplay?

    I did read it, I was replying to Twin Twist's post about being amazed that anyone actually gave a shit about the first two.

    And no, the promise of a new system doesen't make this any more interesting. It did nothing for MK and it'll probablly do nothing for KI since Rare know even less about making good fighting games then Midway does. Not to mention that the market is going to be saturated with product from folks that actually do since Capcom, SNKP and ASW all have new stuff out in the near future.

    It's been 12 years and two generations since the last KI game, and it will be even longer before the game, if it exists, actually reaches shelves. Most gamers have no familiarity with it, and the era when any old fighting game could be expected to sell is long gone. No one is making new IPs and the only ones that sell are those like Tekken, SC, and DoA are ones that have never gone away. And of course, Rare has fallen quite a bit from it's glory days (which may be why this so reeks of an attempt to recapture them).

    I'm a KI fan, but mainly the original game (played it much much more than the second). But I love that game a lot, on of my favorite fighting game :D  I'm pretty old-school when it comes to fighting games though, beside old games (snes era), I haven't played and/or enjoyed much fighting games beside Smash Melee and Brawl.

    But a new KI game doesn't excite me much though. First, it won't be on Nintendo (only console I have), and I know no one with an Xbox 360 (or Xbox 1080 since that game will be delayed some 5+ years). Second, it's Rare. Nowaday, what Rare have done that is worthwile? I haven't heard about them in a long time, and they haven't (in my eyes) done anything good since their last N64 game.
