How do women pass them? Is it less painful then when a guy has too? A friend of mine, who is only 20, might have kidney stones. Kinda weird...just curious.

I was joking. I imagine the pain would be similar, the urethra isn't different sizes based on sex is it?

A woman's urethra is about 4 cm long and a man's urethra is about 19.5 cm long. Based on that it is a little easier for women to pass a stone than men just because it has a shorter length to go.

More like 38 cm in some cases ;)

HAHAHA IT MEANS I HAVE A HUGE DICK

I've heard that when men pass kidney stones it's about the same levels of pain as giving birth. Although I guess there's no way to really prove this.

my wife has had them since she was 16 and i can attest to the amount of pain i have seen her in...some can pass quickly, but it also depends on the kind of stone...some are small and smooth, while some look like goatheads, with little hooks in them, and they like to get stuck...and yeah, its supposedly the equivalent of giving birth... wish him the best, and get him some vicodin. most can be passed at home with the aid of drugs... however some can require surger...

Same as dudes, through the urethra. If you pass 'em, that is--they may need to be removed with lithotripsy (sonic waves that break up the stone) or with a cystoscope (tube that goes up and grabs 'em out).
The size, shape, composition, number, and position of the stone determine the amount of pain. Gender isn't a major issue--although I read a study a while that suggests women have higher pain thresholds, but lower tolerances. So they feel it later, but whine about it sooner.
Has she actually been to a doctor? 'Cause in a female that age, there are a variety of other conditions that she should be concerned about that may appear similar to kidney stones.

Or is she rocking the whole alternative medicine philosophy thing like you?

The intense pain comes from the stone going through the kidney. That's why the pain is mostly in your side and towards your back. Once the stone is in the bladder and then the urethra, you're home free and you just wait for the little guy to come out.

Definitely an incredible amount of pain that no amount of writhing around will make comfortable. Even scarier if you don't know what the pain is from.

I hope your friend passes it/them quickly and doesn't get them again. I had one over 10 years ago and haven't had another since.

Too bad the kidney isn't a useless organ like the gall bladder, then he could just get the whole thing taken out.

Thanks! She has an appointment on Friday, so we'll see. I'm worried for her. She went to urgent care, but that's not exactly trustworthy.

I've had friends that have worn some weird sort of belt that sends pulses into your body with the intent of breaking the stone down into easier-to-pass particles.

The homeopathic version of this, of course, would be to repeatedly punch her in the kidneys.

:lol  penis jokes on the internet is funny.

When a past roommate of mine had stones, I think they used something like ultrasound to help break them into smaller pieces. Gotta love technology.

Lithotrypsy is a fun procedure to do. It's like playing video games. Think Asteroids but inside a person.

Thats okay, I just saw the doctor about mine today and he told me they were going use the shockwave to break it up. He was speechless when I asked "Don't you think using him would be a bit excessive". The nurse got it and damn near fell over laughing.
