Yeah, it's loosly based of the Tell 'Em Steve Dave podcast that started at the Stash about 2 years ago. The podcast features Walt, Bryan, Brian Quinn and sometimes Ming will stop by. Brian Quinn could not be on the show due to conflicts with his show, Impracticle Jokers. The other glairing difference is Ming's role on the show. He actual doesn't work for Walt, but more for Kevin Smith in an IT, web development role.
I'm going to give this show a couple of episodes, but it's on my DVR chopping block. I found it incredibly boring. Also, the comparison to Pawn Stars isn't off base, either, except that Pawn Stars is a bit more entertaining. Surely to goodness these guys can find a lot more cooler things to talk about in the comic book world.
This episode kinda sucked. It's just a lot of the same as last week.Let's all sit around and treat Ming like shit. Although that Batmobile was pretty cool.
Well see for me, I like Pawn Stars because it's got somewhat interested characters, really cool shit that comes in (especially stuff that's relatively new to me), as well as a decent amount of bartering that I enjoy trying to predict what'll get offered & what'll be taken. Comic Book Men doesn't really have any of those things, and it doesn't help that Supernatural airs at the same time. In other words, I'll really only watch it when Supernaturaol's airing a repeat, which right now doesn't look to be happening too often.
I love pawn stars, but this comic book men show, I wanted to like it. However, in the end...Kevin Smith now owes me 2 hours of my life back, and I WILL COLLECT!
Well, the positive (or hopeful to be more accurate) reception this show got a couple of weeks ago looks to be diminishing, so chances are that you're not missing much. Truthfully though, I'd probably keep my TV on if it wasn't for Space airing Supernatural & as such, haven't seen enough to judge, but it just hasn't grabbed me the way I thought it would. Maybe I'd care more if it had to do with cardgames or transformers (as I've always been more into that stuff than comics in general), but eh. In either case, don't worry about missing it hha
It's not that bad people. There's much worse on television. Now... Does anyone have the list of comics that guy brought into the shop to sell? One was the first appearance of Wonder Woman! Superman #11 and #14 were also in his collection. ____________________________
I watched last nights episode only because I was too lazy to get up and get the remote to change the channel, these guys are d-bags for real.
This was actually another pretty good episode. Some very cool stuff that was brought in,especially all those old Golden Age comics. It was cool seeing those Marvel Secret Wars comics also since I still have my set from when I was a kid. That Walter really does low-ball them on his offers though, and he doesn't move too much from his initial offer.
Yeah, but that's what people should expect when they're selling stuff like this to a business. If you're in there to begin with, it means you can't move something on your own (or are too lazy to do so), meaning that getting 30% of its assumed market value is what you should be happy with, if even that. Like, if you could get more than that on your own, then why would you even bother with a middleman? In other words, the Ferengi have it right when they say that the only value of a collectible is what you can get somebody to pay you for it. ... those guys really are douchebags though hah.
I started off being too lazy to change it. But then that Bryan guy started harassing the first customer of the show, the lady from Staten Island. So Bryan is insulting all of Staten Island, and I remember "Hey, aren't they in Jersey??? That place is stereotyped as a shithole. He should shut up." Also, Bryan doesn't even work at the Stash. I've worked at GameStop, where employees clown on customers behind their backs, but somehow it's different to me when it's just some old friend of the owner. Personally, I'd kick his ass out. I changed the channel immediately after being reminded what big douchebags these guys are.
^ Agree. I watched 15 minutes last night hoping to watch the clip of next weeks Walking Dead since they advertised that it would be on during the first commercial break. The motherfuckers lied because all that came up was a little clip that said stay tuned to see the clip later in the show. I changed the channel and will never fall for it again.
