It's about time for Sony's fall in the videogame business.

I disagree... I think it's time they had a wake up call... you don't want to lose any competition. Just imagine what it would be like if there were only one game company making all the consoles.... they could charge you whatever they wanted... what else would you play?

Sadly, it's taking Sony longer to come around than we hoped.

Which illustrates why it's bad that Sony thinks they haven't got any competition. If they were more concerned about keeping an edge in gaming, they might not be trying to sell a $600 Blu-Ray Trojan horse.

I only agree with this statement if it came to a point where it would only be Microsoft running the show.

I'm all for a conglomerate machine, designed and manufactured by lots of different platform holders.

I believe so. Panasonic's first model was, at least.

And that was with lots of competition. Imagine what they'd have charged if 3DO was the only console on the market!

Heheh, it would be kinda neat, a stable, longterm platform with everyone going hell for leather to make the best games. JUST LIKE VHS, but with more buttons!

Yeah, game console technology halting its advancement would be wonderful

    ...for elitist PC-only gamers :p

Maybe thats Microsofts plan with Vista... to make all PC's one great big uniform gaming machine? And the Xbox is only there to entice us all over to the PC side...?

I do agree though, a mass market standardised machine that all companies use would be great. The Wireless controller can have a nice little LCD screen in the middle that changes logo depending on the game you've got in the machine...

Honestly, it doesn't -need- the so called advancement anymore. Is the top selling handheld woefully underpowered or absoloutely bang on in terms of performance to price?

Same with the Wii. Which is it? That controller is not the be all and end all of that machine, especially as it's lifespan continues and more games ignore it completely or continue to abuse it ;)

I think the market is at a point now where such a single standard would be acceptable. Obviously not for this generation, but the next, as it's just hit.

Of course nobody will swallow their pride, on a business level they're all too interested in locking eachother out wherever possible. But I can dream.
