One of my other hobbies is radio controlled helicopters. I often buy aluminum parts in upgrading the performance, durability, and style of my choppers. I belong to a helicopter forum where I have done a little write-up on some aluminum upgrades for a micro helicopter. The company that produced those upgrades, liked my review and offered me a new part that they just released for free. They liked my previous review so much that they thought I should do one for their new parts. That was a complete and total surprise to me as well as a lot of fun. That was last year. Just today, while visiting the helicopter board, I got a PM from another company. They are starting to produce parts for a hot new helicopter that was recently released from Eflite. A Blade 120Sr which I fly quite frequently. This new company had just offered me to do reviews for them! I was completely surprised! So my message to you, is even though you maybe doing these toy reviews for fun and for your fellow collectors. You never know what it may lead. I'm not saying it's a job or anything like that, but hey free parts for testing and reviewing? How cool is that? Micro-job maybe? Anyway, keep up those reviews, you'll never know where it'll lead yea!
That sounds like good experience to put down on the CV. It'll certainly help with future job applications.
Sweet! Just got another message from the company this morning. They said they will be happy to send me their new parts to me free of charge for reviewing! Right now they are in the process of designing/testing their parts. But they said as soon as their ready they'll ship them out to me! I honestly didn't think my review's last year on the smaller helicopter had any impact!
this is nearly obligatory : "Get to the choppa!!!!" but seriously awesome for you!~ you should try your hand at doing Transformers reviews. Wouldn't count on any freebies from, Has/Tak though lol.
Yea I know. I haven't seen any reviews on the old Kaltor Kronoform watch so I've been thinking about doing one of those. I wasn't counting on any freebies from the first company and I certainly wasn't expecting to hear from this new company at all. In fact, I never heard from them till they PM'd me and mentioning that they saw those previous reviews. I was shocked when they asked me if I wanted to review for them. So, that's why I started this thread and say keep doing those reviews. Don't expect anything, but you'll never know when stuff like this comes up! And when it does, it's quite thrilling.
Cool dude. Now you can be the peaugh of rc helicopter fandom. Try using a pseudonym that confuses ppls pronounciation. I heard thats his thing. Just dont dress up as batman or something. I dunno what the rc crowds like but i bet other fandom is less tolerant of that crap.
Guy's, I was not trying to filter RC stuff in here. My only point to the story was that you'll never know what those Transformer reviews will lead. It is highly unlikely that any company will give you free stuff to review. I was never expecting anything from my reviews I just did it as courtesy to my fellow helicopter enthusiasts. I'm just saying, you should keep doing those reviews cause you'll never know when it'll pay off.
The guy that did an early review of those CrazyDevy megawings got a fucked up Divebomb for his troubles. They scratched the hell out of his vintage piece just by sliding them on. So be careful for untested QC and that sort of thing in your universe.
