Will Smith son and Jackie Chan.
I'm not sure why, but, I have the feeling that I'm one of the few that are looking forward to seeing this movie.
stupid....get an original idea.
You're the worst around. Another lame remake that's gonna let you down.
Enough with the remakes of old movies... come out with something new for God's sake!
It doesn't get much dumber than this.
You have got to be fucking kidding me.
This will never happen.
But if it does, I will level Hollywood with my anger.
sweet zombie jesus.
mr myagi will come back from the dead to ruin them all!
Isn't Will Smith's son a little young to play the lead in that story?
Hardly the biggest problem with this whole thing, I know, but that seems to really stickout to me for some reason.
"Will Smith don't gotta cuss in his raps to sell his records.
Well I do, so fuck him and fuck you too!"
Well said, Vanilla2k.
Apparently other sources are saying this is all a false rumor.
The Karate Kid doesnt even need to be remade!!!! Theres no way in hell anyone could replace Pat Morita!
Good. Pat's memory should not be sullied.
Looks like it's fake.
from another site--
Will Smith Not Directing New Karate Kid Flick
Reports that Will Smith is set to direct and star in a remake of the 1984 cult movie 'The Karate Kid' are false, says Smith's representative.
The story swept through online forums over the weekend, speculating that Smith had lined up his nine-year-old son, Jaden, to take the lead as Daniel LaRusso in the remake. Jackie Chan was rumored to be attached to the project to play the part of mentor, Mr. Miyagi.
The reports also went as far as naming companies involved in the new production, and suggested that Smith would produce alongside the producer of the original, Jerry Weintraub.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, Smith's representative, Pat Kingsley, confirmed to The Celebrity Truth that the rumor is "not true".
Sorry for listing something that turned out to be fake guys.
Jackie Chan couldn't pass for an old Japanese man if he wore a bag on his head the entire movie. If they make a remake, I'm calling it for Toshiro Mifune.
EDIT: I know he's dead. If you think that lessens his acting ability, you have never seen a kurosawa film.
I would support getting an actual kid to play the karate kid, though. Ralph Macchio was in his mid-twenties.
Yeah, that'd be cool.
Kinda like "Weekend at Bernie's", but still cool.
Ugh. If this was true, it would have just solidified having Will Smith on my "Needs to be Slapped" list.
If his son is in the movie, expect a "Three Ninjas go to Mega Mountain" type kids movie. Forget any of the charm of the original Karate Kid. As for a Mr. Miyagi? They'll probably go with George Takei if they want a recognizable Japanese older actor. Not that it would work, or that this is a good idea at all, but that's what they would probably want.
