I'm surprised how well this movie holds up. I still enjoy watching it, Kenny Loggins theme and all.

It's not bad, although there are certain scenes that are hard for me to watch now without snickering...

I kinda dig the soundtrack, too.

This is actually my standard 'age test' question.

'Do you know who Maverick and Goose are?'

If they don't know what that is, they're too young. Because everyone over a certain age has seen Top Gun.

On another note, what I love is how most of the time nothing they say in the classroom matches what happens in the sky,

'I was in an negative G dive with the mig'.
'If you were in a dive how could you see him?'
    'Because I was inverted'

Cue Cruise showing with his hands two planes diving. Which they blatently didn't do earlier in the film. Stuff like that.

Still its one of my Favs too, I have it on pan and Scan letterbox R1 DVD (no anamorphic back in those days, Widescreen meant getting letterbox!) meaning its probably the worst copy of the film to get... hence me toying with rebuying on Blu. Problem is, the moment I do I know it'll open the floodgates with rebuying films I already have on DVD...

The movie rocks, all except for the production crew using US planes as "MiGs".
(and i am not talking about the aggressors at the Top Gun School.)

the soundtrack was great, but "Take My Breath Away". the music is so repetitive that i hated it before i left the theater way back when.

So, another age test would be if you say, "talk to me, Goose" and you get no response?

or how about, "take me to bed or lose me forever!"
i'd love to see a girl get that one.

I remember when I went to see it in the threatre. It was popular in my hometown. Pensacola is known as "The Cradle of Naval Aviation".

My mother used to be a huge Tom Cruise fan.

Yeah, I like that movie. A classic. On the older episodes of Mythbusters they had a Top Gun poster on the wall when they would discuss the myths they were doing. I wonder if one or both of them had worked on the movie?

I still love the soundtrack too. Great tunes.

    Bullshit, you can be mine.

    queue the hug.

queue Maverick's hand sliding down off camera...

I mean, c'mon, if two hot sweaty guys can't bond in the Navy where can they bond?
