In the first movie, it took nearly everyone to kill Brawl. Yet in the new movie, some of them go down with barely a fight. But I couldnt help but notice-those were the drones. usually the ones that DIDNT HAVE ALT MODES. Those are the ones that get taken down in one-on-ones and go down easy. others, like the one that scanned the garbage truck, get taken down by the autobots all working together, like when the wreckers took down the on-all-fours Con. So do you think having an alt mode makes them more durable?

Also, in DOTM, people keep forgetting that the military had WheeljaQ's technology to assit them, thus they were using TF weaponry.

I see DOTM Decepticons are very poorly organised crack troop and barely done any battle practice . More so when their leader eloped to nowhere. Most of their jobs are mainly covert (like Lazerbeak).. or wait for que eeer cue to mobilise (its time boys, get up!).

While the Autobots have the benefit of having humans siding with them, with all the perks like routine weapons checkup and practice too (not to mention ... field duty aka 'solving human conflicts').

Plus NEST trained with the Autobots on how to take down a Con bigger than they are.

In the first one they figured out they needed to use sabots, so by the next movie I'm sure they built heavier duty technology around that knowledge. Plus, they had the help of more Transformers in the next movie as well as training demonstrated in DOTM.

I agree that alt mode bots are more durable, as you can see in the ROTF battle all the protoforms regularly taking cover and jumping around while alt mode cons stand and shoot.

This. I like how they showed Bumblebee training them in DOTM instead of just saying it. Good job Kruger/Bay. :thumb

I don't buy the no alt mode=weaker argument. They are Decepticons so they do have some sort of alt mode even if we didn't see it. Also why would having an alt mode up your armour? A protoforms skin is just as tough as a bot with an alt mode (their skin just looks different).

Maybe some cons aren't allowed to have alt mode?

I noticed too. Like in TF1, when the Autobots had not yet scanned their alternate modes, did anyone else think they were scared when they were creeping around?

And remember in the flashback on Cybertron? How all it takes for Megatron to kill an Autobot is hurl a spear at it, and then it just fall over and die? I think the transformers are pretty weak as protoforms.

I also think that you have to factor in just who the military was fighting.

In movie 1, those were the top Decepticons...Megatron's elite. In movie two and three, save for a few exceptions, those were all ground troops. They weren't the elites, trained by Megatron to fight. They were the nameless soldiers on the frontlines.

no, has to do with story.
if the scene calls for a big battle, robots will last longer. simple as that.

I'd like to know what ever happened to the "weird aura around the machine" that Blackout had in the beginning of the first movie...

Yeah. I read somewhere in a reference book (kids book from TF1 maybe) that their protoform metal is soft and mailable and when they get an alt-form it hardens like a shell once it's in the shape it's trying to copy. The protoform is like their transition/travel mode and them just wearing skin and their alt-mode would be like us putting on clothes to protect us from things that can harm our skin. (but theirs is like putting on motocross gear... more protection than just everyday clothing)

THIS wasnt a big scene but just the idea made humans fighting giant robots more believable

They were shot in the face. plus that was a 2 on 2 fight that lasted the same amount of time as the 1 on one between Prime and Bonecrusher.
